It is wasteful, noisy, and pollutes the air. We should mandate that they turn their engines off.

Mayor Newsom,
Your townhall meetings (and this section of your campaign website) are full of MUNI horror stories and pleas to fix the system. No doubt, you are aware of the problem. As someone who wants to leave my car at home and commute to work via MUNI and arrive on-time, I'm interested in solutions--specifically your ideas about
how to fix this system.
I moved to Cole Valley less than a year ago and try to ride the N Line downtown and back everyday.
As one of the busiest stops (and growing) on the N Line, the service levels are unacceptable and make Read This Posty »

Gavin, I believe that the time has come (actually the time came long ago) to end the last Friday ritual known as 'Critical Mass'. This effort by bicyclists to gain attention in San Francisco has been going on since I moved to the City 13 years ago, and is even less relevant now than it was at that time. The effect that it has on the City, due to wasted gasoline, increased pollution, and frayed tempers is not worth the potential political fallout that ending this event might have. There is no constructive benefit to having the event-none of the Read This Posty »

There is more than one way to get around and SF needs to look towards the Dutch for bike lanes (Actual lanes separated by curb action, so it is harder for the agro motorists to take people out). This city needs less cars, we already know that the pollution from them sucks, they are load, and this city needs to keep being PROGRESSIVE!!! And IMAGINE, the Panhandle, a quiet park, with healthy air. Yum!
Gavy if you haven't done it yet take that trip to the NETHERLANDS, smoke a fatty and check out what they have going on. Thanks!

I understand that much of the paper we put in the blue recycling bins gets shipped (via polluting freighter) to China for reprocessing (in coal-powered plants) into cardboard boxes used to contain consumer goods that are shipped back to the U.S. Maybe the net impact of our paper recycling is worse for the world environment. Why don't we have a domestic green business solution for this? I am afraid we might be fooling ourselves when we recycle our paper. San Francisco could take the lead on this matter, as it does for several environmental issues. Please look into the matter Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor,
If you want to clean up the city, get the old dirty diesel buses of the streets!
We have new hyrids; use them on the lines where the oldest and dirtiest diesel buses run, like the 19 Polk.
Buy more cleaner, quieter buses, soon!
The diesel buses spew filthy particles into the air we breath. The exhaust is so thick it blows through our windows and coats our homes.
The noise pollution is also bad, especially as the diesel buses chug to try to make it up the steep hills.
Please do something about this and improve the quality of life in our city.
Thank you,
Ross

If they can not go electric, then please advise how I can lead a campaign to have them banned...they really stink!

They, as well as WalkSF, think the countdown is to tell them how much time they have to start crossing whereas it is for people off the curb to finish. This prevents traffic from turning right, causing back-ups, congestion, and air pollution from idling vehicles.

MUNI: service really deteriorated when it was cut back last year. Why not try to run it as a free service? That's a great idea. Charge for automobile entry into downtown areas. Or, charge an admission to the city.

If you add up city streets essentially dedicated to cars, parking, garages, mechanics, DMV, DPT etc etc you end up with a significant fraction of the relatively small square area which is SF. What about more green medians, bulbouts, wider sidewalks, and many many more traffic calming measures.

I have three main issues that have become major pet peeves. Is there any hope for enforcement?
1) Pedestrian ignorance and JWalking.
2) Loud Harley Davidsons without mufflers that tear through the streets and set off car alarms. Boom Base devices installed in cars that shake buildings and set off alarms.
3) Trucks that sit idling for long periods of time polluting the air quality as well as contributing to noise pollution.
