I fully support getting people out of their cars as the mayor plans to intent. But as a resident, I have to drive here and the streets are getting progressively worse. With all the gas main and other work, we are creating more and more pot holes as the crews inadequately patch the problems they have created. Major corridors like Guerrero and Gough streets are becoming hard and even dangerous to drive. We are a world class city, but our streets don't show that.

Hi Mr. Mayor:
Feeding the hungry is fine, but what about fixing the streets in San Francisco. I have lived in the city for the greater part of 34 years and have never seen the streets in such states of disrepair. Streets like Bush Street from Presideo to Van Ness and Divisadero from Page to California are in terrible shape. These are just a few of the examples that can be cited for streets that need repayment as soon as possible. Fixing potholes after rains is not the answer as you well know.
Sincerely,

Divisadero, Fulton, etc. There was a ballot item a few years ago to raise the money but it got shot down because of a provision not to permit landlords to pass along tax raises to renters. How about if the people who live here and drive on the streets shell out a few bucks to pay for some new pavement. Take a drive around almost any area from Palo Alto to San Jose to see that decent pavement is not a bank breaking item for a local government. If they can do it so can SF. The bad pavement makes Read This Posty »

This is a pet pee! Homeless folks constantly sleep, pee and defecate in front of our office on Howard Street near 2nd. Between high taxes, the parking shortage, rampant graffiti, illegal posters and flyer trash, street potholes and the stench of human waste, It makes running a business in SF extremely unpleasant.

I try to ride a bicycle as much as possible, the condition of the city streets and the roadways in Golden Gate Park are dangerous. The route I frequent, along Stanyan Street, is a total washboard and entails using only the middle of the road , to avoid the washboard edges, which makes for bad interaction with motorists. Take a look at Stanyan Street from Parnassus to Frederick; or look at almost any road in Golden Gate Park for examples. Only the part of JFK Drive between Stanyan and 19th Ave. has any decent pavement.

A crack, hole, or rise in the surface of our streets of less than an inch or greater may sound like small potatoes to you, but try traveling between California and Market streets (including the sidewalks) in a standard or power wheelchair. It can be a jarring experience, not to mention the wear and tear on the chair. If you think I'm kidding, you are welcome to try the trip yourself. Just borrow a chair and do it. As a matter of fact, I am more than willing to let you borrow my powerchair.

Before we want to take on national issues and try to "show everyone else how" why don't we fix our transit system, fill the pot holes, clean up the homeless problem and generally get the City of San Francisco running properly. Why is the collective leadership of San Francisco always grand standing on national issues? Be a result oriented leader and "Fix your City" instead of positioning your political career.

Portola Drive is being beautified with new trees, etc. In the meantime the pot holes just become bigger and bigger. I am sure that I have reduced the value of my car from driving over those pot holes. Yes, to beauty but c'mon those pot holes have to be repaired first.

As a native San Franciscan (multi generation) and very proud that I am, we moved out of what should be considered a safe and desirable SF neighborhood (Cal and Van Ness) to Oakland when our baby was born last year. There were many reasons why I felt forced out of my city, but let met touch on just a few.
1) Walking outside our apartment in the early evening to see someone hunched over the next morning we found two needles
2) Having someone defecate in our driveway ramp (multiple times)
3) Prostitutes walking their beat down our street
4) Repeated vehicle vandalism (every Read This Posty »

The streets in S.F. are worse than a third world country. Drive down any main thoroughfare and you will see what I am talking about.

We live in free society. I do not support giving government more control over our lives. I support health care spending accounts, 100% tax deductibility for all health care related expenses. LET US TAKE CARE OF OUR HEALTH CARE, YOU FIX THE HOLES IN THE STREET.

GAVIN -
I HAVE BEEN A STRONG SUPPORTER OF YOU AND VOTED FOR YOU IN THE LAST ELECTION. I HAD EVERY INTENTION OF VOTING FOR YOU THIS TIME AROUND AS WELL.
YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME. WHY THE HELL SHOULD I PAY EVEN MORE MONEY TO YOUR CITY GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT ILLEAGAL ALIENS WHEN YOU CANNOT EVEN FILL A POTHOLE.
I WILL BAD MOUTH YOU TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN.
I KNOW YOU DON’T CARE BECAUSE THIS ELECTION IS IN THE BAG BUT YOU’RE OVER IN MY BOOK.
BRIAN

One of my pet peeves is that my neighborhood, Bernal Heights is like an unincorporated part of some third world country. There are blocks with no sidewalks or curbs, and the streets are like dirt roads. Potholes abound and I will see abandoned cars, washing machines and other garbage accumulating and staying for very long periods of time. It feels like my neighborhood is a forgotten wasteland completely ignored by the city of San Francisco. I am a property owner and I pay my taxes but they certainly don't come back into this neighborhood. Read This Posty »

Bush Street, for example, has a 30 mph limit but hitting those defects at that speed plays havoc with the automobile's shock absorbers.

Once I get off the beautiful GG bridge and onto Marina Blvd I feel like my car is going to explode. The pothole situation is embarassing and really makes me wonder if you are waiting for the next big quake to wipe out the Marina before you decide to put money into repaving its streets.

Gavin, you were behind me in line at Walgreen's on Chestnut last year when I told you about my car being stolen out of my driveway. The rest of the story is, I got a delinquent parking ticket, and drove to Sea Cliff where the ticket was issued 6 weeks before. It was parked on the street near the ticket location. I called the police and had it impounded. They obviously did not open the car, because at the tow company the next day, I found in the car: 2 file boxes full of car registrations-at least 200 separate cars Read This Posty »
