Dear Mayor Newsom,
As a long-time resident of San Francisco, having grown up in this fair city I take great pride in being able to say I am from here, albeit not native as I moved here when I was six-years-old. Now, 31 years later, I'm glad to see my city back on track in terms of tourism. I've noticed many European tourists especially and was even told by an SFPD airport officer that foreign travel is back to pre-9/11.
The unfortunate thing, and the reason for my letter, is I am ashamed to see the condition of Powell Street between Read This Posty »

My pet peeve is that I sent an email regarding Powell Street from Union Sq. to Market and all the aggressive panhandling and the filth of the street to your office on August 29 and received no response. Not even an auto-reply saying you received the letter.

My pet peeve is writing to the Mayor's office a few times about the drugs and homeless situation along the Powell/Market street area and getting no response at all. As of right now, Mr. Newsom does NOT have my vote.

In my continuing frustration walking to and from the Powell Street MUNI/Bart Station to my place of work near Union Square, a friend let me know about this website. Frankly, I am doubtful this will help, but will give it a try. For me, and thousands of others who have to use this station to get to work, this becomes representative of what San Francisco is like to LIVE in. Unfortunately, I do not have the good fortune of working around the Montgomery Station or Embarcadero. Every day without fail, I am treated to what is like a human toilet Read This Posty »

Watching TV peacefully in my living room this evening, I'm disturbed by yelling and screaming outside my window. Granted I live @ Market and Powell Streets, but this confrontation was so unusually loud and heated, it drew me to the window.
I see four people screaming and yelling at each other emphatically waving their arms, getting in each others faces. In short, I see an argument - an argument that could easily escalate into a physical confrontation - or worse.
I call SFPD non emergency. I give descriptions of all four, I tell them about the confrontation and ask them to send Read This Posty »

Dear Gavin -
My name is Steve, and I work near the corner of Market and 6th Streets for a publishing company. Currently, we are at the mid-way point of our ten year lease of this sixth story office building. Other tenants include SMWM (Architects), with Radio Shack and House of Blue Jeans on ground level.
Yesterday, I arranged to have Captain Denis O'Leary (SFPD/Southern Station) come speak at a town hall meeting, here at the office, to discuss the many concerns we have regarding this neighborhood. As you know, this particular section of the Central Market Street district, Read This Posty »

And why was it necessary to post two Muni employees in West Portal to tell people which bus to get on because of the subway construction and yet, at the Muni ticket booth at the foot of Powell Street there is only one of two windows open to sell cable car tickets and other Muni offerings (yet the line was about 30+ people long)? Customer service does not seem to be a very high priority.

In the Union Square area in particular, one of the top two tourist areas in the city, one can't walk half a block without being approached/harassed by vagrants looking for spare change. On Powell St this past Tuesday I counted 23 of them between Market St. and the St. Francis Hotel. It is a disgrace and is at epidemic proportions. The filth they leave in their wake is appalling. I am a democrat and voted for you. I think you are doing a pretty good job and you seem like a decent guy. Next time out, I am voting for Read This Posty »

Here is a personal request from me. Clean up the Powell and Market areas of this city! It is a disgrace! You do that and I will support your campaign. Otherwise, I am voting for someone who will clean that up since you have had 4 years to do it and nothing has changed.

I made the mistake of taking Powell St in making my way to North Beach yesterday. I quickly remembered why I had stopped taking that route and my pet peeve. It's difficult to believe that it's possible to double park cars on a Chinatown street for two hours during the morning commute, every morning. You'd be wrong if you bet against it. Beginning around 6:45 A.M. firefighters coming on duty, illegally, double park their cars on Powell St. They go in, shower, shave and have coffee. After 8:30 A.M., they begin to shift their cars with the firefighters going off Read This Posty »

Dear Mr. Mayor,
As a native of 50 years it was so nice to see your www and willingness to hear complaints from the public.
I drive 30,000 miles across the US for business and SF is truly the best City for everything, except the homelessness. Talking with clients and people in hotels, the homeless problem are always brought up.
It is so disgusting to see the homeless downtown, especially on Powell/Mkt . I had to spend a nite on Powell/Geary and was shocked to see what goes on after 9PM. They homeless, bums and musicians are out in full force. Even during Read This Posty »

Mayor Newsom: why are the homeless allowed to "hold court" on the sidewalks of downtown San Francisco and harass passersby for money? This situation has jumped from the pot to the skillet!!! It seems that the bums are getting very self-righteous and view those of us that work as human ATM's. It amazes me that they are allowed to follow and swear at people that don't give them money over their hogwash sob stories. When is it gonna end, Mayor Newsom? I am a hardworking native of this city who feels threatened whenever I exit the Powell Street BART station. Read This Posty »
