I wish there was a dog park that was enclosed so that I could let my dog run free and play with other dogs. All of the dog parks are wide open and I fear that he will get hit by a car or jump on a small child.

On Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2 pm, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department Commission is considering increases to the public park permit fee schedule that could make San Francisco's parks inaccessible to its community groups and grassroots organizations. This action would raise non-profit park permit fees to thousands of dollars, making park access out of the reach of many non-profit groups. Do we want our parks to be available only to corporate interests and the rich? San Francisco's parks are our precious resource and must remain accessible to our community without corporate sponsorship. This could spell the end Read This Posty »

To Mr. Gavin Newsom,
Hi. my name is Jason. I am currently a highschool senior attending Galileo. My AP Government teacher told me to email you about an issue I saw in the city so decided to listen to him even though its extra credit. I have lived in the Chinatown neighborhood for a long time and today I still go there to do community service. And every weekend when I am at Portsmouth Square, it is filthy and full of spit on the floor. Alot of people that use that are do not necessarily take care of it. And everytime Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor Newsom:
You need to ditch the suit and wing-tips for a week or two and put on your running shoes and go walk the city. We live in such a wonderful city, but the filth, trash, and general condition of the place is terrible. There's garbage everywhere, the sidewalks are a mess, etc.
I travel a lot for work and when I'm in NYC and Chicago, I'm always shocked by how clean those cities are. I think we forget in our little bubble by the bay that living in a city doesn't have to mean dirt and filth of a Read This Posty »

I live directly across the street from a basketball and tennis court. When I first moved here, excited about the prospect of getting a little exercise after work, I trotted down with a basketball to find that the gate was locked. Oh well, maybe I came too late, so I'll try again tomorrow, I thought. Turns out that the gate is always locked at night even though the park is technically open until 10 p.m. The lights are on and I see people playing, which means that they are consistently hopping the fence. I eventually tried this and enjoyed playing Read This Posty »

Washington, DC may not be the most popular city in the US right now, but we could certainly take a page or two from it in terms of design and transit:
1. This city needs more green! As a planned city, DC is full of tiny parks, huge trees and green spaces; even downtown it feels like you're in the suburbs (and space is not the issue - DC is only about 10 sq miles). Here in SF, those of us who don't have a lovely view of the ocean or the headlands could use a lot more trees and green Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor, our parks in the South East section of San Francisco have few if any working bathrooms. We have had to resort to porta potties in some picnic areas. The ones that do have bathrooms are usually locked up on the weekends and holidays--the biggest attendance days! McLaren Park is often gated on holidays too, discouraging park use. Trash also piles up in large quantities on the weekends and the park workers do not haul any of it away until the following week. Our citizens in the southern part of the city need to have their parks fully staffed Read This Posty »

Douglass Park at 26th & Douglass Sts whicih is highly used on weekends has the rest rooms open only when somone has paid to have a gathering. I have seen numerous children as well as their parents and grandparents in distress. It seems other places, such as Sonoma, have their facilities open on weekends. This is a no brainer. The city seems to have money for other things.

Dear Mayor Newsom,
Your proposal for a similar Quality of Life community court system like the one in NYC sounds good. We have been waiting for you to finally get around to addressing quality of life issues for some time now. Actually, we have been waiting for the last four years for you to do something to help us. Your office of community services has ignored us for the last four years, as a matter of fact we do not even know if they know we exist. Our e-mails have gone unanswered by them. So we just gave up trying to Read This Posty »
