Could there be a more selfish neighborhood in SF (maybe all of the country)?  No yogurt!  No late night pizza!  No new housing!  No!!! No!!! No more alcohol!!!!  No street fair!!! Dear Mayor, Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city? Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping? Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs? Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned? I am incredibly disappointed that Gavin came out publicly AGAINST Prop H! We need more parking and the transit first policy is not realistic for a really livable city. As a homeowner with a family and no garage it is incredibly difficult - try going shopping for the week with 5 bags of groceries a stroller w/ 2 year old on muni. Problem: The delivery trucks are constantly blocking the roads, and if not the trucks then the boxes and food shipments are on the roads and sidewalks, which means that pedestrians must walk on the roads to catch the buses. MUNI - usually, things are running pretty well; however two days running, Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27, I experienced major delays on the 38 and 5 lines. On 10/26 around 12:30 pm, I was returning to the Outer Richmond District from downtown, at Geary and Taylor; I waited 45 minutes for a bus.  There were 10 of us waiting, two people had to flag down cabs, because they didn't want to be late for work.  And, on Saturday, Oct. 27th I waited for a 5 Fulton bus for 35 minutes at 9:15am at 30th Ave and Fulton, heading for Read This Posty »

MUNI! Most recently (within the past month) I have boarded the inbound N or T Metro at approx. 5:40 PM @ Harrison/Embarcadero when the fare box has been out of order and the driver has refused to issue a transfer so that I could transfer to the J. Since I use the $15 Muni coupon book - this causes two problems: (1) Non payment of fares and loss of revenue (2) Exposing passengers to the risk of being ticketed by an inspector on arrival at the next station before transferring to the next train, assuming the fare box is in Read This Posty »

My pet peeve is MUNI. There are still NO MUNI SCHEDULES PRINTED & WIDELY DISTRIBUTED. I called 311 three times yesterday while waiting for the #12 bus. Each time they flat out lied to me. I was told they were using GPS to track the bus but they had no clue. One of the operators said they don't print bus schedules because of budget cuts and I can get "accurate" information about arrival times by using up my mobile minutes to keep calling her. I work at City Hall on a volunteer basis and I see the inner workings of that place up close and personal.  The Supervisors are the enemy of the Mayor's office and vice versa.  Those two political camps will do anything to embarrass each other with little concern for the consequences to the city's residents.  A case in point being our parking shortfall versus the condition of Muni.  The Board ceaselessly pushes their transit first policy in the face of our dysfunctional public transit system precisely because it highlights the managerial incompetence of the administrative arm of City government. Professionals living in such a great city as San Francisco have the right to be able to commute to and from work in a dignified manner using public transportation!  Instead, as a rule (not exception), we are sandwiched in on the bus, often with drunks, drug addicts and REEKING homeless people.  We need more frequent buses (I ride the 38 line), we need drivers to be accountable for not showing up to work, and please tell the drivers not to let stinky homeless people on.  Forget fairness and treating everyone with respect - it is utterly unfair to force everyone Read This Posty »

We moved out of San Francisco last month because we could not get to/from our daily activities without stepping over the homeless, stepping in dog feces, stepping around garbage, or being stuck on the N-Judah.  It's a shame that San Francisco has deteriorated to the point that we felt we had no choice but to move to a city that respects it's citizen's efforts to make the simplest of activities be just that.   William Read This Posty »

My suggestion is to enforce existing laws, such as parking meter (no feeding), traffic laws for cars and bicycles (driving in bus lanes, red light runners, stop signs, stopping before turning on a red light), etc. and other things such as pedestrian and bicycle safety, availability of meters and spaces, etc. would improve.  I drive a lot and find no one enforcing any laws.  I believe parking meters are good for retail neighborhoods (2 hour limit), and garages are too expensive and not always available.  Enforcement of existing laws would conceivably pay for itself and bring money into the city Read This Posty »

I ride this line for the last leg of my commute to work and on a given day, it has about a 50-50 chance of being on time. And when it's late, it is really late. Up to 15 minute delays! Furthermore, there aren't nearly enough of them during rush hour to counter their tendencies to being late. That is simply unacceptable! Especially for a city that prides itself on environmental friendliness that goes with public transit! This line isn't just for tourists. For sometime now since the Art Academy (Pres. Elisa Stephens) took over the YWCA Bldg. off Sutter and Mason Sts, their shuttle buses continually stop/park on the zone reserved for loading bus passengers.  As the Muni driver(s) cannot pull over to the curb, because  the Academy's buses are in the bus zone, the disabled passengers  have a very difficult time getting on the bus.  I called the Dept. of  Parking and nothing has been done.  Please follow-up on this issue.  Thank You!  Lily Subias Read This Posty »

I have lived in the city for 26 years always relying on Muni for transportation. Until a few years ago it was a fantastic, efficient service at a very reasonable fee. It has become a very poor transit system if you ask me. Our city officials want less cars on the streets and more people to ride Muni but have not put more trains or buses in service and have not shortened the time you have to wait for one. It is not a "Pet Peeve," it a sincere concern about public safety.  The intercom system on the subway trains cannot be understood by the majority of passengers .
