Dear Mayor Newsom:
I would like to inform you that I am not at all impressed with your plan to give all uninsured residents in San Francisco free health care. I am a seventy one (71) year old woman who has lived in San Francisco for sixty five (65) years. I own a home in District 7 which I have to maintain. I retired from the Federal Government in 1991 after 36 1/2 years of service. I live on a fixed income and receive approximately a 2.9% Cost of Living Increase (COLA) each year. $157.00 is taken out of my

Why don't you make restaurants serve food at 1980 prices and make bars sell drinks at 1980 prices. That would be as fair as rent control. I am taking my 11 units off the market as are all the other property owners I know. I'll rent to foreign exchange students before I will continue to participate in the organized white collar theft created by rent control. Then where will people live and who will pay the taxes, and who will vote. Give property owners a break, we are paying to maintain the city. Maybe the city would like to subsidize

The current premise of rent control is faulty since it has no connection to the income of the people it protects. It should be abolished and replaced with a program in which the city suppliments the rent of poor people. It is causing the small property owner to go out of business. It also essentially demands descrimination in the rental process as it is the kiss of death to rent to a sick, elderly or disabled person. I had a tenant who drove an Alpha Romeo while I worked on my house and drove a 15 year old ford escort.

San Francisco has a lot going for it, but it lacks some things that would make the city run a lot more smoothly.
1. GAVIN NEWSOM THRUWAY. Living near Franklin, Gough and Van Ness makes for dangerous lives. Each day thousands of motorists try to get through the city and are forced on city streets to get there. They speed down Franklin and frequently run red lights. If there is an event going on near the Civic center, it's really dangerous for pedestrians. It also creates a jam in the middle of the city which dissuades people from coming to the
