The “last drink” initiative
January 17th, 2008 8:49 pm

Mayor Newsom, the following information on drunk driving and negligent bars comes from Join Together, an alcohol and drug addiction policy organization: Suspected drunk-drivers are being quizzed by New Jersey police about where they had their last drink as part of an effort to identify bars that may be habitually over serving customers, the New York Times reported Dec. 30. The "last drink" initiative, instituted by the state Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, gathers information from police officers in a statewide database; regulators then use the information to better target investigations by state alcohol inspectors. "This kind of intelligence really enhances our efforts Read This Posty »

Our DA!!
January 8th, 2008 9:16 am

Get rid of her please so the cops can be motivated to bust criminals again and actually obtain some suspects.  I'm sorry but she is a joke.  SF's murder and crime rates are on the rise while other WORLD CLASS cities like Chicago, LA, and NY are decreasing.     Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Not solving the homeless problem
January 3rd, 2008 12:51 pm

It has been reported that Mayor Newsom recently ridiculed former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani's advise on solving the homeless problem.  Given the increasing numbers of homeless people in San Francisco despite the hundreds of millions being spent by the city, our mayor is in no position to ridicule the advise of a former mayor who brought the homeless problem under control in his city by providing shelter space to all NYC's homeless and not allowing them to sleep on the streets. Why Mayor Newsom has not followed this plan is a mystery.   Instead, our mayor devised a 10-year homeless Read This Posty »

The SFPD
December 6th, 2007 9:30 am

I love San Francisco and don't want it to change.  My friends and I can buy and trade drugs openly, throw our garbage on the street, disobey traffic laws (even with the SFPD present - those lazy f*cks) and even commit burglary and know we won't be pursued.  Keep up the good work Chief Fong!! Taxis in San Francisco
November 14th, 2007 2:52 pm

Dear Mayor, Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city? Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping? Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs? Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned? Why are cabs allowed to arbitrarily decide if they want to give you a ride? (In New York City and other major cities, they cannot refuse a ride.) Why should I have to wait on the phone endlessly trying to hail a cab and get nothing? Why does this "green" city not provide for Read This Posty »

I hope we do not spend too much tax dollars on the homeless
November 13th, 2007 9:32 am

My pet peeve is I hope you do not terminate this site "Pet Peeve" now that you are Mayor again.  I think this site is beneficial for the people of San Francisco and also for you Mayor.  This site is a communication for you as our Mayor and us the People of San Francisco.  So I hope you will continue to keep this site.   I have another concern that is the homeless, I read the article about our outreach and that we are considered as a Model which is great. But my question is what happens to the homeless people Read This Posty »

Police Non-Emergency Line
November 9th, 2007 9:54 am

I sincerely hope you are still reading this site Mr. Mayor, and not ignoring it now that's you've won the reelection. In either event, I have made three recent phone calls to the non emergency police line in the past week to report serious harassment by crack-smoking thugs on the 500 block of Hyde street towards anyone passing by and interrupting their glorious and ever-protected cocaine smoking binge, only to have had the line ring, ring ring and ring...with NO answer!! On the third attempt, they took my info and said someone would be coming right over. 45 minutes later Read This Posty »

People have to frequently walk through Chinatown to catch MUNI
November 8th, 2007 9:51 am

Problem: The delivery trucks are constantly blocking the roads, and if not the trucks then the boxes and food shipments are on the roads and sidewalks, which means that pedestrians must walk on the roads to catch the buses. This is not only dangerous, it is against the law. Why are you not doing anything about this? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Since the police don’t care, maybe you’ll show some interest
November 6th, 2007 2:28 pm

My wife's car was broken into in the parking lot at the Pottery Barn at Market and Castro three hours ago.  She's still waiting for the police to come and take a report.   I know the police are busy putting up "Yes on F" signs, but we live in the city and pay our taxes.  Somebody needs to step up and take responsibility for the criminals which this city fosters in it's low income housing.   Mike Read This Posty »

Never too late to do the right thing
November 5th, 2007 9:46 am

Gavin Newsom failed to keep his promise to reduce the number of murders in the city and he should resign. In Newsom's first year as mayor, he announced on KFOG radio that if he could not reduce the number of killings in the city, a recall petition should be initiated and he might even sign the petition.  Well, Mayor, the murders in the city have gone up, up, up during your administration, and are likely to reach triple digits for the first time in over ten years.  In Willie Brown's eight years as mayor, the highest murder rate was 84 Read This Posty »

Unreliability of Muni
October 31st, 2007 9:18 am

Contamination of our landfills with mercury?
October 31st, 2007 9:17 am

People are buying, and PG&E is giving away, those energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs by the thousands, perhaps millions.  However, no one seems to be informing people that these bulbs have mercury in them and must be disposed of in hazardous waste sites, not in the regular garbage and landfills. I am concerned that when they do finally burn out, thousands, even millions, of these bulbs will end up in our landfills, spilling their mercury, because people probably won't know NOT to put them in the regular garbage disposal.  When I bought a box of these bulbs, I finally found Read This Posty »

Forget patching potholes, how about completely repaving the high traffic streets?
October 30th, 2007 11:33 am

Divisadero, Fulton, etc.   There was a ballot item a few years ago to raise the money but it got shot down because of a provision not to permit landlords to pass along tax raises to renters.  How about if the people who live here and drive on the streets shell out a few bucks to pay for some new pavement.  Take a drive around almost any area from Palo Alto to San Jose to see that decent pavement is not a bank breaking item for a local government.  If they can do it so can SF.  The bad pavement makes Read This Posty »

Critical Mass is Not a Peaceful Protest
October 30th, 2007 11:29 am

I FIND THAT CRITICAL MASS IS OUT OF CONTROL AND THE CITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT LACK CONTROL OF THIS WHOLE SITUATION. CRITICAL MASS IS NOT A PEACEFUL PROTEST. ALL THEY DO IS CAUSE TRAFFIC AND TROUBLE. THEY DON'T OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS AT ALL. I FEEL IT IS THE GOVERNMENT AND LAW ENFORCEMENTS DUTY TO MAKE SURE THEY PROTEST IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT OFFEND OTHERS. SOMEONE IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB. I CHALLENGE YOU TO TAKE ON THE DUTY OF GETTING THEM UNDER CONTROL. Daniel Read This Posty »

Unlevel sidewalks!
October 26th, 2007 8:19 am

My mother tripped and fell due to uneven sidewalk on Geary Blvd.  She ended up severely bruising her face.  When I took her to the emergency room at CPMC, the attending physician said he sees accidents like this DAILY because of the poorly maintained sidewalks.  I'm a jogger and I'm constantly on the look out for uneven sidewalks.  I've seen uneven sidewalks painted a bright orange to highlight the hazard but that is it.  When is the city going to fix this?  Edwin Read This Posty »

The potholes are becoming a real danger
October 24th, 2007 8:46 am

I try to ride a bicycle as much as possible, the condition of the city streets and the roadways in Golden Gate Park are dangerous.  The route I frequent, along Stanyan Street, is a total washboard and entails using only the middle of the road , to avoid the washboard edges,  which makes for bad interaction with motorists. Take a look at Stanyan Street from Parnassus to Frederick; or look at almost any road in Golden Gate Park for examples. Only the part of JFK Drive between Stanyan and 19th Ave. has any decent pavement. Name Withheld Read This Posty »
