As a native San Franciscan (multi generation) and very proud that I am, we moved out of what should be considered a safe and desirable SF neighborhood (Cal and Van Ness) to Oakland when our baby was born last year. There were many reasons why I felt forced out of my city, but let met touch on just a few.
1) Walking outside our apartment in the early evening to see someone hunched over the next morning we found two needles
2) Having someone defecate in our driveway ramp (multiple times)
3) Prostitutes walking their beat down our street
4) Repeated vehicle vandalism (every Read This Posty »

My car has been broken into twice in the past six months and I have seen an increase in the amount of broken glass from other break-ins in the past month +. I imagine this is a tough problem to solve, but it sours me on the idea of living in this city, not knowing if I am going to wake up to a car with a broken window each morning.

As a resident of the Castro, I'm very concerned about Halloween this year. Instead of telling people not to come and asking businesses to close, let's just tell everyone the event is being held in Walnut Creek this year. Seriously, those of us who live in the neighborhood are very concerned about how little thought or preparation appears to have been spent on this matter.

The number of times every day where I see glass from broken out car windows versus the proportion of police officers in the neighborhoods in question, there needs to be a stronger AND visible police presence, crimes will only increase if you do not show the criminals that their actions will lead to convictions.

I do not understand why there is not a barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge. There have been over 1,300 people who have committed and completed suicide. If people feel it makes the bridge look ugly or ruins it, they should see the family & friends who have lost a loved one. If there are barriers on a simple overpass, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building & volcanic Mt. Mihara in Japan. Why not put a barrier on THIS bridge? CA has the highest number suicides in the U.S. If this barrier saved one life, I know it would Read This Posty »

When will the mayor do something about the law-breaking bikers who ride their bikes on the sidewalk? Why is that tolerated here? I have NEVER seen a bicyclist riding past me that has ever announced that he is there, like I have seen in other cities, by saying "On your left/right." Usually, the biker speeds past me as I feel their clothes whipping me--barely avoiding a near-accident if I had taken one small step to the left. If that person was walking behind me, would they just shove me out of the way?
I've also been almost mowed down several Read This Posty »

I, and many others I'm sure, are extremely frustrated over the City's inability to get criminals off the streets. I don't know why there is so little cooperation or oversight over the various city/county agencies, but the net result is a revolving door down at 850 Bryant. Someone commits a crime and is arrested by the police. The police don't arrest someone unless they have probable cause, so there is a pretty good chance the arrestee is guilty.
The arrestee then goes into the care of the Sheriff and at that point the cops lose ownership. Now the Sheriff's office can Read This Posty »

This school should be moved to the Presidio. It brings crime to an otherwise peaceful and quiet neighbor.

However, when they park or stop for a non-emergency, they should park in a safer spot on the road and not obstruct the lane of traffic and use their hazard lights as a safety caution. There have been many cases where they stop on corners, or stop a car in one lane and park parallel to the stopped car causing the general traffic to be merge to the next open lane. They should practice safer parking habits as required with anyone with CDL and not use their 'power' as a police officer to park anywhere and anyway they choose. The Read This Posty »

You can't come out of your driveway and the cars are speeding up the beat you. You cant walk across the street for fear of being run over. It's supposed to be a family neighbourhood but the kid's cant walk or play near the street's. Please please !!!!!! I ASK YOU TO PUT MORE STOP SIGNS ON VICENTE BETWEEN SUNSET AND 19TH AVE OR SOME KID IS GOING TO GET RUN OVER. Just take a count of the cars that use Vicente St. everyday and i bet you'll agree there needs to be something done about it. This is the Read This Posty »

The southwest corner of Geary and Hyde, which is an open air crack market and smoking den. I have lived here 10 years and only seen cops walk this beat once. The problem is obvious to all, but no one does anything about it. When I try to chase them off, my physical safety is threatened.

Sorry, but the primary way that people can get health care is to get a job. Or pay for it out of pocket. Many of the uninsured prioritize car payments, cigarettes and direct TV over health insurance. For most it's a matter of choice.
Unless there is a provision for healthy living and benefit for taking care of yourself, this is something that is just not worth the tax dollars I already spend.
This is the city and county of San Francisco, don't make into the DDR of the west coast.
Fix the schools, streets and get homeless people and junkies to stop Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor Newsom:
While I generally agree with your policies and I am endorsing you for mayor, I completely disagree with your universal health care proposal. As a tax payer in San Francisco, I believe this is misuse of our tax dollars. I specifically oppose extending universal health care to people who are here illegally. Once again, hard working, tax paying, home owning citizens of San Francisco are footing the bill for another city sponsored subsidy program. I'll get behind these kinds of programs after the city fixes the roads, hires more police officers, fixes the schools, and upgrades the Read This Posty »

Please help prevent people from being mugged on the short 1 to 2 block stroll from Cortland Street to their homes. With the recent shift in demographics in Bernal Heights, you'd be surprised at how many of your loyal constituents reside there.

Hello, I recently moved to the bay area from the central valley 3 months ago and my god this ( bay area ) is quite a culture shock- I am only from a hundred miles south-I witness anything I could possibly think of murder, dope dealing, drug usage, prostitution, threats, pedestrian hit and runs, homeless cancer patients, teens living on the streets, people rushing. But my main concern is with the city's homelessness... and how it affects the city's reputation which is not to mention by the way is declining. Most of the time their homeless situation is drug related. Read This Posty »

Why are the people using their cellphones allowed to ruin the ride for the rest of us? Even the bus drivers are yelling into the damn things while careening down the street with a bus full of passengers! People in San Francisco have no sense of social etiquette or basic manners for the most part. (Try this, say "excuse me" to 10 people in a crowded place. See how many of them just plain ignore you, and continue doing whatever they were doing. Or, they'll look at you like you're speaking in some tongue from another world) The self-centered nature Read This Posty »

I'm forced to walk through unsafe areas at night because I can't park where I live! I find that I can't park within a one-block radius around where I live because the parking permit R is required. Since I do not have it yet, I am forced to park my car near the projects on Laguna & Turk and risk my life walking home every night. Because of my work, some late nights are unavoidable. I am a small, young female and I felt really unsafe walking home last night when several drunk and lewd people attempted to accost me. Read This Posty »

Can something be done about the timing of the traffic lights at Mississippi/7th/16th Street? Driving from Mississippi onto 7th, the green light is so short that only 3 or 4 cars can get through before it turns red again. In the evening, this means that traffic is often backed up for multiple cycles of the light. Could this green light be made a little longer, or the one allowing traffic down 16th a little shorter? I realize it's a complicated intersection, with three distinct streets and a Caltrain crossing... but that brings me to another point about this light, that Read This Posty »

The number of drivers running red lights! The number of pedestrians jaywalking! Both incidents affect me daily. Cars going through lights well after the light has changed and people walking across intersections long after the light has changed or even when it's glaring red or not even crossing at an intersection or crosswalk! The budget for DPT could be doubled it seems if these laws were actually being enforced!
