Traffic on Yerba Buena Ave (Monterey Heights neighborhood) is WAY TOO FAST !!!
June 15th, 2007 7:22 am

And it is dangerous for pedestrians in this very nice part of San Francisco. Please install stop signs on the cross streets to slow the traffic. Thanks for listening! ~ Jim Read This Posty »

The cross walk at 3700 California (Commonwealth) is unmarked
June 14th, 2007 9:09 am

It is in front of CPMC-California Campus which is for pregnant women and children.  Nobody ever stops to let people use the crosswalk, including (and especially!) the MUNI drivers.  A bright sign and cone in the middle of the street and on either side might shame some folks into following the law before there is a tragedy.  Carrie Haverty Read This Posty »

Unsafe Taxi Drivers
June 7th, 2007 2:57 pm

Taxi drivers are making our streets unsafe with their over agressive and discourteous driving.  Please provide some mechanism for reining in their behavior. Alan Fong Read This Posty »

SFPD Not There When You Really Need Them
June 4th, 2007 8:55 am

Why is it that the SFPD sets up "traps" on streets like Dolores Street to trap you with a ticket that is complete BS but are never there when you really need them in day to day life in SF for petty crime like packages stolen from my doorstep when I'm at work and when neighbors were held up at gunpoint in the middle of a super safe area of the city? Street Safety Standards
May 28th, 2007 2:07 pm

It seems as though a lot of attention is being paid to fixing pot holes and leveling off streets, but not to improving safety standards on the street. If you drive through many neighborhoods, you will see that pedestrian zone paint in the streets, for example, is fading in so many intersections that it is almost impossible to see. Similarly, there are so many crowded and dangerous intersections that need stop lights, not just stop signs. And others that do not even have stop signs. Further, pedestrian safety signage in parts of the city is woefully inadequate. In light of Read This Posty »

The Island
May 15th, 2007 2:16 pm

The island used to be a pleasant place to live, now it's turning into a crime ridden, corruptly managed, and unsafe place to live. The redevelopment plans being put in motion are not environmentally friendly or even close to environmentally sound. They treat us like second-class citizens and make us sign away all of our rights. They have evicted lots of people and inconvenienced a lot more. The Island is now owned by the city but I get the feeling that they have a total disregard for the needs of the people who inhabit it. The Treasure Island community should Read This Posty »

Potrero Hill Not Safe for Kids
May 15th, 2007 12:54 pm

As a 30-something, single, about to be married, professional who lives in Potrero Hill and works in the Financial District my Pet Peeve is that this part of the City does not appear to be safe enough for me to feel comfortable raising children in my neighborhood. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

SFPD does not receive enough credit from your officials
April 30th, 2007 6:48 am

There are officers that work diligently to keep our city of San Francisco safe and when I read the newspaper the media never has anything nice to say about our police department.  I think is time for us to support our Police Department and give them the credit that is desire. Until you experience the streets that officers encounter and walk in their shoes then you will have the right to criticize their abilities.  Let  SFPD do their job and stop hindering. Sincerely, Red Read This Posty »

Why No Pedestrian Safety Campaign?
April 26th, 2007 2:56 pm

The fact that there appears to be no public service campaign on safe walking/street crossing.  Growing up in New York City (where they know a thing or two about being aggressive, pedestrian-wise) I remember PSA jingles about crossing at the cross walk, about looking both ways, about being a smart pedestrian.  But pedestrians in San Francisco seem to work on the principle that, since it's not legal to hit them, everyone will be able to stop in time to obey the law.  Physics trumps even the best-intentioned driver.  I wish my daughter's school had a Walk Safe program--or even just Read This Posty »

Crime in Potrero
April 25th, 2007 8:14 am

My pet peeve is crime.  I live in Potrero and sometimes things get ugly.  Transients think it's okay to live in their cars and use the sidewalks as their toilets.  People are constantly dumping their trash in my neighborhood.  Cars being broken into is routine.  I once saw a guy pull an AK-47 out of the trunk of a Mercedes by the projects.  And every once in a while, someone gets shot.  I'd very much like this to stop.  I'd like a zero tolerance approach toward violence be taken.  Bulldoze the projects at the top of the hill.  I don't Read This Posty »

Kamakasi Drivers
April 23rd, 2007 10:07 am

One of my pet peeves....what would be called "Kamakasi Drivers".  These are drivers of vehicles that will speed up behind another driver's vehicle and than either speed around that vehicle and than cut them off or just tailgate.  This is done when other lanes are open.  I can only imagine that this may have occurred today on the Dumbarton Bridge today, causing the another accident.  This one ending with a fatality. Lack of police officers in SFPD
April 11th, 2007 9:13 pm

My pet peeve actually affects many other people's pet peeves: the lack of police officers in SFPD.  As I understand it, we are currently 300 officers under authorized strength.  While 300 in itself is a large number, it is a symptom of a larger problem.  To fill the 300 positions with high quality officers, you need to attract many more applicants, so you can weed them down to academy trainees, andthen make further cuts to get the best of your academy class as officers.  I think that the Mayor should convene a blue ribbon panel on the recruitment, training, and Read This Posty »

Homeless, homeless, homeless!!!!
April 9th, 2007 7:52 pm

Panhandlers on every corner! I can't walk to the local Walgreens without getting hit on at least a dozen times in between home and the store . . . and I live in a supposedly *better, safer* neighborhood (the Castro)! Even when I leave the store, you have to hide your pocket change because beggers are standing outside the door with Big Gulp cups for your change. I am not heartless; but, since I moved to S.F. five years ago from San Jose and Monterey, I have turned a blind eye to beggars and I don't think that City Hall Read This Posty »

Critical Mass
April 8th, 2007 7:12 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom,   After reading about the two incidents that took place this past week during the Critical Mass bikes rides, I am absolutely outraged. It is the city of San Francisco's responsibility to keep its residents safe and the city is just sitting on the sidelines.   The poor family had their car destroyed and their children were terrorized and frightened. No one was brought to justice. Someone could have been seriously hurt.   A quote from one of the officers at the scene: "We sit there and they just go right through the red lights,'' Sgt. Callejas said. "What else can we do? Read This Posty »

No Street Lights and BART Safety
April 3rd, 2007 2:31 pm

My 2 main pet peeves are:   1) nonexistent street lights on city streets; (God some of these streets are REALLY dark); and   2) safety of BART at night.  In other cities I would ride the subways at night, but not here....... Diana R. Read This Posty »
