I don't know if this is a pet peeve or a smart solution.  The city's Sanctuary Law has had the unintended consequence of allowing drug dealers to "hide" amongst those looking for work.  This has impeded the ability of the police department to aggressively address drug dealing and the "magnet" issues that come with it (drug abuse, public drinking, public urination, etc.).  Isn't it possible to enact two ordinances that will let people look for work, and let the people engaged in criminal activity "stand out"? 1.  I think I have seen your "sit and lie" proposal or loitering proposal.  If Read This Posty »

I support the Mayor but not some of his proposals. If he was a bit more to the right, I would be a big supporter. I have been a very big Newsom fan for years, but your support of  "sanctuary" for people who enter the country illegally has greatly reduced my admiration. Mr. Newsom, Sir, I live in the Tenderloin. Do I really have to explain the problems down here to you? We ask for more of a police presence and nothing happens. I am a 5th generation San Franciscan whose relatives built City Hall and had some reverence for being the greatest City in the world. In principle this is a very noble gesture. However, are not all Americans immigrants and their descendents? Is there not a Federal process for obtaining legal status? Will all of the people that have gone through the Federal process be reimbursed for thousands of dollars in form and attorney fees that they incurred, including time lost from work? What about the people whose legal status applications were rejected, the families which are separated often by oceans?
