Let residents park in their driveway
January 17th, 2008 8:52 pm

PARKING!  I live in the Excelsior (16yrs) and it's difficult to find parking on the street, especially after 5pm.  I've counted a few addresses that have 3 or 4 vehicles and also, they can't park in their garage because: (a) all or part of garage converted to apt; and/or (b) can't accommodate a large truck.   Some folks take up two parking spaces because they are reserving space for their other vehicles.  For safety if I come home late I have to park in my driveway (my garage is used for storage) and big chance I'll get a $100 ticket.  Sometimes Read This Posty »

NY murder rate?  WAY DOWN!!!  This is a city of 800,000 and we can't manage the crime, the dirty streets, and the homeless....something is wrong! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Our deteriorating streets!
January 11th, 2008 10:12 am

I fully support getting people out of their cars as the mayor plans to intent.  But as a resident, I have to drive here and the streets are getting progressively worse.  With all the gas main and other work, we are creating more and more pot holes as the crews inadequately patch the problems they have created.  Major corridors like Guerrero and Gough streets are becoming hard and even dangerous to drive.  We are a world class city, but our streets don't show that. How filthy our streets have become
January 3rd, 2008 12:52 pm

I have lived in SF for over 25 years. I live in Russian Hill, a nice neighborhood. I have recently noticed how filthy our streets have become. I have taken to sweeping a portion of my block to eliminate the trash. I would love to see a campaign that encourages us to keep our streets litter free. I often remember seeing the merchants in Paris cleaning up before each mornings business Jim McVicker Read This Posty »

Not solving the homeless problem
January 3rd, 2008 12:51 pm

It has been reported that Mayor Newsom recently ridiculed former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani's advise on solving the homeless problem.  Given the increasing numbers of homeless people in San Francisco despite the hundreds of millions being spent by the city, our mayor is in no position to ridicule the advise of a former mayor who brought the homeless problem under control in his city by providing shelter space to all NYC's homeless and not allowing them to sleep on the streets. Why Mayor Newsom has not followed this plan is a mystery.   Instead, our mayor devised a 10-year homeless Read This Posty »

Never seen the streets in such states of disrepair
December 19th, 2007 1:34 pm

Hi   Mr. Mayor:   Feeding the hungry is fine, but what about fixing the streets in San Francisco.  I have lived in the city for the greater part of 34 years and have never seen the streets in such states of disrepair.  Streets like Bush Street from Presideo to Van Ness and Divisadero from  Page to California are in terrible shape. These are just a few of the examples that can be cited for streets that need repayment as soon as possible.  Fixing potholes after rains is not the answer as you well know.   Sincerely,   JOHN Read This Posty »

The SFPD
December 6th, 2007 9:30 am

I love San Francisco and don't want it to change.  My friends and I can buy and trade drugs openly, throw our garbage on the street, disobey traffic laws (even with the SFPD present - those lazy f*cks) and even commit burglary and know we won't be pursued.  Keep up the good work Chief Fong!! Taxis in San Francisco
November 14th, 2007 2:52 pm

Dear Mayor, Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city? Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping? Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs? Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned? Why are cabs allowed to arbitrarily decide if they want to give you a ride? (In New York City and other major cities, they cannot refuse a ride.) Why should I have to wait on the phone endlessly trying to hail a cab and get nothing? Why does this "green" city not provide for Read This Posty »

Time for enforcement
November 14th, 2007 12:17 pm

What is bothering me when we reach the end of the rope in assisting the homeless which this problem has been going on for a long time now.  Since we developed this criminal court system the progress is going in the right direction but what do we do with the homeless who do not comply with the counseling assistance towards a better quality of life.  Since a week ago I have seen at least one homeless person or more sleeping on the streets still.  Yet we as taxpayers are contributing to the cause of helping the homeless which indicates compassion.  Read This Posty »

I hope we do not spend too much tax dollars on the homeless
November 13th, 2007 9:32 am

My pet peeve is I hope you do not terminate this site "Pet Peeve" now that you are Mayor again.  I think this site is beneficial for the people of San Francisco and also for you Mayor.  This site is a communication for you as our Mayor and us the People of San Francisco.  So I hope you will continue to keep this site.   I have another concern that is the homeless, I read the article about our outreach and that we are considered as a Model which is great. But my question is what happens to the homeless people Read This Posty »

Police Non-Emergency Line
November 9th, 2007 9:54 am

I sincerely hope you are still reading this site Mr. Mayor, and not ignoring it now that's you've won the reelection. In either event, I have made three recent phone calls to the non emergency police line in the past week to report serious harassment by crack-smoking thugs on the 500 block of Hyde street towards anyone passing by and interrupting their glorious and ever-protected cocaine smoking binge, only to have had the line ring, ring ring and ring...with NO answer!! On the third attempt, they took my info and said someone would be coming right over. 45 minutes later Read This Posty »

We need more parking
November 8th, 2007 2:44 pm

I am incredibly disappointed that Gavin came out publicly AGAINST Prop H! We need more parking and the transit first policy is not realistic for a really livable city. As a homeowner with a family and no garage it is incredibly difficult - try going shopping for the week with 5 bags of groceries a stroller w/ 2 year old on muni. There is a lot of talk about trying to keep families from moving out of the City ... further restricting parking doesn't help. Craig Read This Posty »

People have to frequently walk through Chinatown to catch MUNI
November 8th, 2007 9:51 am

Problem: The delivery trucks are constantly blocking the roads, and if not the trucks then the boxes and food shipments are on the roads and sidewalks, which means that pedestrians must walk on the roads to catch the buses. This is not only dangerous, it is against the law. Why are you not doing anything about this? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Since the police don’t care, maybe you’ll show some interest
November 6th, 2007 2:28 pm

My wife's car was broken into in the parking lot at the Pottery Barn at Market and Castro three hours ago.  She's still waiting for the police to come and take a report.   I know the police are busy putting up "Yes on F" signs, but we live in the city and pay our taxes.  Somebody needs to step up and take responsibility for the criminals which this city fosters in it's low income housing.   Mike Read This Posty »

Money spent on homeless ineffective
November 5th, 2007 10:25 am

The $100 million per year being spent on the homeless by the Newsom administration is being squandered.  According to an Oct. 31, 2006 article in the Chronicle, the city spent $108 million directly on the homeless during fiscal year 2004-05 (not counting medical and police emergency services and DPH cleanup work).  This was an increase of $9 and 20 million, respectively, spent in the previous two fiscal years, and it amounts to $17,285.53 per homeless person being spent in 2005. (That is, 6,248 homeless people (as stated in the 2005 homeless count report) divided by $108 million).  Despite this grandiose Read This Posty »

I live on the 400 block of Funston Ave. and my street is a toilet…literally
November 2nd, 2007 9:09 am

Men urinate on a daily (and nightly) basis in the trees across the street from my building. Taxi drivers, trunk drivers, motorcyclists, businessmen in suits -- they all think that our street is a toilet. I take my dog out there and am afraid to walk among the trees in case I run into a man with his pants down or step in something he left. Help! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Homeless with no place to go
October 31st, 2007 9:19 am

The Newsom administration has no plan to remove homeless people from the streets.  When his administration began, there were over 1800 shelter beds; today there are 1212 shelter beds (according to city records). How do you move homeless people off the street if the number of shelter beds are being reduced.  Newsom may talk all he wants about his outreach programs, but there are 2771 homeless people on the streets (according to the 2007 homeless report) and most of the shelter space is filled every night.  The fact that there may be some available beds in the shelters because people Read This Posty »

Let’s stop pretending that limited parking is cleaning up the air
October 31st, 2007 9:14 am

I often spend as much time driving around looking for parking as I do driving to my destination.  If people could drive straight to a parking garage near where they are going it would cut pollution in half.  Not to mention make it a lot less frustrating to live or visit SF, and enhance local businesses near the garages.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Forget patching potholes, how about completely repaving the high traffic streets?
October 30th, 2007 11:33 am

Divisadero, Fulton, etc.   There was a ballot item a few years ago to raise the money but it got shot down because of a provision not to permit landlords to pass along tax raises to renters.  How about if the people who live here and drive on the streets shell out a few bucks to pay for some new pavement.  Take a drive around almost any area from Palo Alto to San Jose to see that decent pavement is not a bank breaking item for a local government.  If they can do it so can SF.  The bad pavement makes Read This Posty »
