I don't know if this really get to gavin, but anyways i would like to ask him y can't he do something about the hotels in SF using the white zones to rent for a limo company who rents it for individuals to use to steal the taxi business and other limo company's business that they spend alot of money on advertising to get it.
also what ever happened to equal opportunity rights in this city?.
When a hotel permits one limo company to use the white zone for that purpose then other limo company's can not compete unless they wanted to Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor,
Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city?
Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping?
Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs?
Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned?
Why are cabs allowed to arbitrarily decide if they want to give you a ride? (In New York City and other major cities, they cannot refuse a ride.)
Why should I have to wait on the phone endlessly trying to hail a cab and get nothing?
Why does this "green" city not provide for Read This Posty »

Between 8-9am, often 4 over-crowded buses pass before 1 stops to pick up passengers. The supply does not meet demand. If you want your citizens to drive less you need to provide adequate public transit. And there aren't Nearly enough cabs in this city.

My main pet peeve - Taxi cabs are now impossible to get when you call for them. This is especially true in Bernal Heights.
My second pet peeve is that none of the \"Rules and Regulations\" that help customers are enforced. For instance, the Rules and Regulations 8.B.2 say \"If the caller has requested a call back and the call has not been dispatched within twenty (20) minutes of the request the service shall call back the person(s) and advise them of such.\" -- I've actually tried to ask for a call back and dispatchers pretty much laugh at Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor Newsom,
Please see my post below, a copy of which I sent to Muni today and If there is ANYTHING you can do to improve this service please do so.
This is to inform you about the lack of an efficient, competent, organized, well-thought-out, structured, prepared, skilled etc….. Muni bus service from the Financial District in San Francisco to the Cal Train Station at 4th and King St.
At present we are now down to one bus (due to the number 15 bus being recently “retired” ) for the Cal Train service within the Financial District area Read This Posty »

Trying to get a cab in South Beach, especially, is like pulling teeth, even when I call them in advance. Please, do something about this. Thanks.

Cab drivers (with truck drivers) used to be THE BEST drivers on the road.
Tonight, between the Market Street Safeway and my home, different Yellow Cab drivers made 2 illegal U-turns and ran 3 Stop signs! Seriously, I am talking about five (5!) different cabs with different drivers! And I cannot begin to tell you how many F-U's I get after I have to slam on the brakes because I'm in their way! I have many friends visiting from Manhattan or New Jersey who are completely appalled.
I am also a frequent traveler, and I have stopped using any type of cab Read This Posty »

Drivers of ramp taxis work harder and make less than any other drivers, not only because they have more work per passenger and less pay too (tips can be nonexistent), they also pay by far the most for gasoline: for me it is a huge problem that I now have to spend about $1000 per month on gas. Last year I got my ramp medallion, yet already the $1200 I earn monthly from it is cut in half by the sharp rise in gas fees. THIS IS A CASE OF COMMERCIAL FRUSTRATION and merits immediate attention. Yet ALL politicians seem Read This Posty »

The lack of taxis in a city the size of SF, and the reality that the driver can "drop" a call and go wherever....?

MUNI - broken system (almost killed by MUNI daily, as a pedestrian and a rider, fares too high for such a bad transit system)
Cabs - fares way too high considering that the city's public transit is woefully inept
Safety - getting worse in SF, you can feel it in many neighborhoods
Schools/Cost of Living - families are fleeing, lifelong residents and multi-generational SF families cannot affors to stay...something is VERY VERY wrong with SF and yet we seem to spend money/resources on other urban planning/social/civic items that make the city more expensive still
Gavin, I voted for you and will again, but don't Read This Posty »

I have written to you and the supervisors about the taxi issue, but nothing has changed. The taxi system in San Francisco is the missing link. I take public transportation most of the time, but because getting a taxi to come when you need one is totally unreliable, I bought a car. (Read on)
It will do no good to have more cabs. The issue is that cabdrivers here are considered "independent contractors" and the cab companies just send out a call. The drivers may, or may not, pick you up. The cab companies can't tell you when, or even if, Read This Posty »

I have been in SF for two years.......When I want to park by a meter I never know if it is for one hour or two.........a simple solution.........mark the meters....one hour or two. I find it VERY frustrating. Another peeve....probably not your problem.....but is is a REAL problem........the cabs should have lights that indicate it has a passenger or it is free........there must be a way to take care of this without having to buy new cars.......they could have a magnetic sign for the top of the car.........maybe they don't care......I have no idea what a bus only lane is......cars Read This Posty »

1. Street potholes need to be repaired properly! Fulton Street by beach, entrance to park at 42nd Avenue thru to Lincoln Blvd.
2. How come the streets are so full of trash and garbage?
3. Critical Mass Bike riders should all be registered with the city! Each bike should have ID number hanging from the bikes crossbar. So, if any trouble, the person can be ID thru the bike's ID number. I think this would solve a lot of problems with the bike riders who always cause the problems with the drivers. And how come they never have to obey the rules Read This Posty »

Taxi drivers are making our streets unsafe with their over agressive and discourteous driving. Please provide some mechanism for reining in their behavior.

Every day between 6:30 AM and 9 AM if you pass by Howard and Third Streets, there is a fleet of taxicabs who like to park on the NE corner- directly in front of two palinly marked red-zone fireplugs.
It seems the DPT could earn the City some fresh money DAILY if they would only enforce these malignant cab drivers who seem to think a fireplug means you can park there- man, there's no meter!
I am really (really) sick of seeing them there, never getting tickets...

Please consider putting more taxis on the road. Since it is impossible to have a car in this city, public transportation has to be ramped up so people can get around. When I go to work on Friday and Saturday nights, I can't get through at peak times and I have to walk down to a bar (where the inventory is supposed to be better) to fight with drunk patrons for at least 15 minutes before I finally get one. I work at night and I don't want to be late! If you did put more taxis on the road, Read This Posty »

As a local SF resident, who travels to New York City a few times per year, I am always dumbfounded and frustrated by the poor quality of taxi drivers and taxi service in San Francisco. On many occasions I've had to get out of a cab right after getting in, because the driver had no idea of how to get to my requested destination. 90% of my cab rides are spent listening to the drivers talk non stop on their cell phones, not paying attention to their driving.
As a pedestrian, I see cabs running red lights and double parking Read This Posty »

If we really want people to get out of their cars and use public transportation, then reliable taxi service is *essential* to fill in the gaps that cannot logically be filled by Muni. Taxi service should be seen as part of a comprehensive public transportation plan. Without reliable and affordable taxi service, residents will hold onto cars for those situations where using Muni is not feasible. As it stands, we have far to few cabs, and the rates are much higher than they should be.

I just went to actlocallysf.org and was appalled at some of the things Gavin Newsom thinks should be a priority for this city. Since when did having more cabs and free wireless trump the poor performance of MUNI, the huge increase in homeless, and an increase in crime in San Francisco?
What kind of fantasy world does Gavin Newsom live in? We know he wasn't paying much attention to the city when he suggested making MUNI free and got caught partying and dating too much. Glad to hear he is "in rehab" but after looking at the Web page, Gavin is Read This Posty »
