Time for enforcement
November 14th, 2007 12:17 pm

What is bothering me when we reach the end of the rope in assisting the homeless which this problem has been going on for a long time now.  Since we developed this criminal court system the progress is going in the right direction but what do we do with the homeless who do not comply with the counseling assistance towards a better quality of life.  Since a week ago I have seen at least one homeless person or more sleeping on the streets still.  Yet we as taxpayers are contributing to the cause of helping the homeless which indicates compassion.  Read This Posty »

Where do we draw the line in this city?
October 18th, 2007 7:57 am

I received an infraction yesterday in the tenderloin for driving in a bus lane.  The problem is i was going to make a right hand turn onto Van Ness.  How else do you make a right without driving in a bus lane on Geary?  This is on the edge of tenderloin.  About 3 blocks prior i saw a homeless man with a stolen shopping cart and an addict smoking crack.  Where do we draw the line in this city?  I told the officer about what i had observed and his reply was "don't you know what neighborhood you are in?"  Read This Posty »

Guiliani cleaned Manhattan up with a strengthened police force
October 15th, 2007 7:47 am

Mr. Newsom, You need to be much more proactive in preventing crime and homeless solicitations in SOMA, the Tendorloin & Market Street. Numerous visitors & friends of mine have commented on how "ugly & nasty the problem is" specifically in high traffic tourist areas. I lived in NYC when Mayor Guiliani was in office and he cleaned all of Manhattan up with a strengthened police force, you definitely need to do the same from 6th street to 2nd Street, Market to Brannan. This starts with simply having a police presence and the rest will take care of itself. ~Thanks, Jonathan Goodman Read This Posty »

Crack Problem in the Tenderloin
September 26th, 2007 12:04 pm

Universal health care sounds great. How do you feel about the Tenderloin crack problem? At least a dozen people openly smoke crack all hours of the day on Jones St. between O'Farrell  and Ellis. They are quite loud all hours of the night and make rude comments to woman of all ages. Open urination and defecation by these people are also major problems...I work and vote and unfortunately the Tenderloin is the only area I can barely afford to make rent. I'll keep voting for new officials till I notice real change around here. I did not vote for Chris Read This Posty »

Crime in the Tenderloin
August 11th, 2007 9:23 am

Last evening about 6:00 in the daylight there were two shootings on Larkin, some say three people were killed, drug deals gone bad the word was. There seem to be as many if not more drug dealers as there were 4 years ago. Not only is this bad for the community it also is a sad situation for the families of the individuals who were killed. I live on Larkin, a very diverse street. This is a major street the continuation on 9th Street and a community of families and businesses. Drugs and homelessness are a big problem in the Read This Posty »

Why does Heather Fong still have a job?
July 24th, 2007 11:06 pm

My latest pet peeve is that mayor Newsom and the San Francisco Police Department have ignored the pleas from me and many other law-abiding San Franciscans to do SOMETHING about the crime and violence in our neighborhoods. Routinely when I call the police non-emergency line about homeless camping, people fighting, or people shooting up in doorways next to my apartment, NOTHING is done.  Sometimes I'm lied to that something will be done or was done the last time I called.  In all cases, I am ignored.  I've posted repeatedly on this very pet peeve blog my experiences dealing with the police Read This Posty »

Drug dealers on Larkin St/Hyde St in the TL
July 11th, 2007 7:58 pm

Why can't the Mayor do something about the drug dealers that hang out day and night on Larkin St between Golden Gate and Geary St in the TL. The also "Hide" on Hyde St between the same place. They seem to center at Geary and Hyde day and night. The people of this part of town feel that they have a right to walk down these streets with out having to walk thru a drug deal. Why can't he also get the people who sleep on the streets and in front of people business and in the alleys off the Read This Posty »

Tenderloin Getting Worse and Worse
July 8th, 2007 6:08 pm

Homeless pissing and shi@ing, on public streets and sidewalks within the realm of 7th, jones, post, to market and california streets,  known as the tenderloin. The city needs to stop being so giving to the homeless, because the problem is getting worse and worse every year.  There are professionals living in the tenderloin too, lets not forget.  Problem 2 drug selling on 7th and market its every where there, and i have yet to walk by and not notice a deal. WE NEED MORE UNDERCOVER COPS AND STINGS ON THAT CORNER!!!! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Graffiti Happens - Don’t turn a Blind Eye if you witness it
June 20th, 2007 7:28 am

Walking back from the dentist today (no cavities, thank you very much) I saw something that really made me wince. Right there on a crowded downtown union square street corner (Geary and Stockton) at 3pm, some short punky guy is personalizing the public bus with a purple etch-a-sketch marker. I can't figure out what it says of course, but that's the point of graffiti isn't it? The most remarkable fact was that about 10 onlookers were just STANDING there watching him! As I walked past the stopped bus, trying to figure out why no one was saying anything, the vandalist jogs Read This Posty »

Give us a break, and do something about the increasing crime in the city!
June 20th, 2007 7:13 am

The following quote is from an SFGate article on 6/5/07:  "The Tenderloin and Market Street area is a new hotbed of drug dealing,'' said Lt. John Murphy of the homicide detail. He said he has spoken to investigators in police gang and narcotics units about the spike in violence brought on by dealers and customers from outside the city. WHAT A JOKE!  We who live in the Tenderloin have been complaining to the Mayor, City Council and Police for more than two years about the growing drug dealing problem.  What have any of them done????  NOTHING!  I guess they think it Read This Posty »

Clean up the Tenderloin and Market Street!
June 18th, 2007 8:12 am

Why are there not at least 2 police officers per block WALKING up and down the especially bad areas?  (6th & Market, Golden Gate & Jones would be good places to start).  Most of the people causing trouble around there aren't even from the neighborhoods, they commute in because they know they can get away with it! Same Prostitutes, Drug Dealers and Homeless
June 11th, 2007 8:55 am

How is it that every night I drive by the same prostitutes, drug addicts and homeless people.  Do you ever take a drive though the tenderloin? How are you turning a blind eye? I'm not a police officer and I can tell you who's high - who's selling themselves and who's dealing drugs.  Why do these things just go on? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Theatre-goers scurring in fear from the teaming masses of homeless
June 9th, 2007 11:31 am

I am a San Francisco native. My husband and I subscribe to the Best of Broadway series. Being night workers, we usually do matinees; however, our tickets for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (Golden Gate Theatre) were for 8 PM. We usually have a pre-show beer at Original Joe's. I have NEVER in my life seen so many theatre-goers actually scurry in fear from the teeming masses of homeless camped all over the sidewalks and even in the street...my husband and I never scurry--like I said, I was born here and I am not afraid to "cross the gauntlet" as Read This Posty »

Geary Street, between Jones and Leavenworth
June 7th, 2007 8:32 am

For 16 years, I have lived on Geary Street, between Jones and Leavenworth, and until recently, I have loved this neighborhood for its "local color," its convenience, its steady flow of visitors from around the country and the rest of the world, its excellent restaurants and galleries and theatres, etc. But in the last 3 or 4 years, the neighborhood has steadily deteriorated. To put it bluntly... it seems that the hookers and pimps and drug dealers/buyers and other assorted derelicts have marched steadily north from the Tenderloin, thus making Geary Street from Leavenworth to downtown just as dirty and Read This Posty »

Homeless and Drug Dealers in the Tenderloin
June 6th, 2007 8:28 am

I live in the Tenderloin (Chris Daly's district, unfortunately) on O'Farrell near Jones. Most every day there is a nexus of "homeless" people and drug dealers gathered on the corner, littering, smoking crack, blocking the sidewalk, and generally bringing the quality of life in the neighborhood down for the rest of us. I've complained to police, but they do nothing. I'd like to see more enforcement in areas where these ne'er-do-wells concentrate. One or two of these people in a spot is one thing, but I often count up to 20 people gathered on this one corner. Get some police Read This Posty »

Eddy Street between Van Ness and Cyril Magnin
June 4th, 2007 8:45 am

I will stay brief and to the point: Eddy Street between Van Ness and Cyril Magnin is a disaster of potholes, untimed lights, and untimed crosswalks. At the least it should mirror the behavior of Turk Street in that it is timed and smoother while being that much deeper in the tenderloin borough. While my greatest pet peeve is two parted: the huge need of homeless funding and help given to the tenderloin district community and two: I would also venture to say that the EXIT Theatre on Eddy between Taylor and Mason is one of the few reasons that Read This Posty »

Clean Up the Tenderloin
June 4th, 2007 8:25 am

Mr. Newsom, Sir, I live in the Tenderloin. Do I really have to explain the problems down here to you? We ask for more of a police presence and nothing happens. The killings over the weekend points up the fact that nothing is being done to curb crime down here. I remember Diane Feinstein saying she was going to "clean up the Tenderloin" when she was mayor. We are still waiting. I wrote Willie Brown when he was mayor. We are still waiting. How is it Rudy Giuliani can clean up New York, but San Francisco can't or won't do Read This Posty »
