The area around Church and Market is starting to look like the Tenderloin. Church/Mkt use to be a great neighborhood-now its overrun with so-called homeless people laying across the sidewalks, aggressively panhandling, rummaging through trash bins and leaving the trash around the bins. These people are bums and thugs. Have you noticed 15th St. between market and Church. Its an encampment with overflowing shopping carts, etc. This city is an ENABLER when it tolerates the trashing of this city. I had to go back East for a few years and when I returned in 2005 I was shocked by how Read This Posty »

Why don't the cops ever get out of their cars and walk in the Tenderloin? All they do now is drive by while regular people are hassled for money and crack cocaine is being sold and smoked on the street. Then they pull someone over for rolling a red light. You need a change in priorities in the TL. Now.

It has been terrible for at least 20 years. It needs to be addressed. It is a sign of total incompetence that it is not.

It is crazy that in our "civilized" city we lack places for people to go to the toilet. I walk through the Tenderloin every day and see public urination (and worse) regularly. I think the Europeans have it right with the pissoir idea. Check out this high-tech version:

There continues to be a shortage of authentic housing for low income citizens. Whenever a developer wants to develop a property, they are obligated to dedicate a percentage of their units to the low income housing market. But those units are not truly low income housing. There are plenty of citizens earning $15.00 per hour, who simply cannot afford to rent (let alone buy) one of the so-called low income units. Please create authentic low-income housing for the truly low-income earners, wherein each unit has it's own bathroom, and is somewhere other than the drug infested, and crime ridden areas Read This Posty »

When walking to school on Golden Gate avenue between Larking and Hyde it is impossible to pass on the sidewalk on the South side of the street as addicts are sprawled across the sidewalk day and night shooting up in public. While I understand that it doesn't solve the drug problem to prohibit it or arrest perpetrators for this, I think it sends a message of not only tolerance but acceptance, when the police turn a blind eye to blatant consistent shooting up in public. Besides Hastings, there is daycare and a school within a couple blocks of this location. Read This Posty »

Please have the sidewalks washed down with high-pressure hoses once a month. Some European cities, like Madrid, do this every single day in the early morning. The urine stink is gross and gives a bad impression to visitors. If the larger problem is toilet facilities for the homeless, then let's address that and provide more public toilets. Thank you.

I am a social worker for Meals on Wheels in SF. The city requires us to do assessments of each senior on our program, which is very important and takes approximately 50 minutes - but many of the parking meters in the Tenderloin only allow for 30 minutes. I do the best that I can and always fill the meter but I just need more time on most occasions. It is very difficult to pay the ticket on a social worker's salary when I am doing what is required of me by the city.

I want to see our police spend more time going after violent criminals and less time - none would be best - going after people who use and sell drugs or sex. I am totally serious about this. I lived in the Tenderloin and Mission for eleven years and not once have any dealers or prostitutes ever reduced my "quality of life". And get rid of Care Not Cash. I know quite a few persons whose lives have been ruined by it. Removing the last little bit of happiness available to people without homes is just plain cruel. And I Read This Posty »

Blatant homeless and drug use problem in the Tenderloin. Granted I only drive through it, but it is disturbing and just filthy.

As a long time San Francisco Activist who's main mission is to maintain and improve quality of life in the Tenderloin, I find the unfriendly and often times rude attitude by the reception staff at the "Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services" to be extremely disconcerting and discouraging.
And although the MONS Liaison to my district is always most kind and efficient, he is spread far to thin, covering several districts, which has made the "Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services" an ineffective and useless resource.
E-mails and phone calls to this office under the mayor now rarely garner a reply/response.

What bothers me is sometimes I do not feel safe walking past menacing homeless with my 1 year-old son, ad that I can't take him to some places that require us to pass through the Tenderloin, such as the Asian Art Museum and City Hall.

My pet peeve is that this city keeps trying to bill itself as "green" and "progressive" yet does nothing to earn the title. Gavin Newsom seems to think being green means planting ficus in the Tenderloin. We need to be MUCH more progressive about global warming and traffic congestion by implementing congestion tolls, raising parking fares, making MUNI actually viable, and forget about requiring MUNI to "fund itself." The subway needs to go way past Chinatown into North Beach, a neighborhood that crawls with drunk drivers every night.
And how about making Alioto-Pier's token gesture of making it illegal Read This Posty »
