I have had a chance to check out the debate. I think you are dodging the issues. The SFPD needs to be overhauled, for real this time - once and for all. Rather than making racist videos, stealing leftovers from people on the sidewalk, or covering up crimes committed by their favorites (Baker's Dozen-gate), the SFPD needs to concentrate on the appalling murder rate that is now plaguing SF.
In general, SF is seedy and run down. The streets are filthy. Muni needs improvement. And my daily walk - esp. Drumm Street between California and Sacramento - is a shame Read This Posty »

G,
I live at Vallejo and Scott. I was mugged. This mugger got to nine individuals including one that died.
I am 64 years old. I beat him up and got his gun. That is not what I want to do but I will not allow someone to rob me.
We need more police on the street.
I live around the corner from Nancy Pelosi. Why is it that patrol cars don't turn right on Vallejo.
You seem to have time to walk picket lines. How about walking my block at night.
As an aside, the fake gun I took from the mugger is the reason he Read This Posty »

I moved here about 2 1/2 years ago and I must say I love this city and do not plan to leave. Mayor Newson has been a great Mayor, but from living in cities like Ft. Lauderdale, Chicago and visiting cities like Miami, and New York, San Francisco has got a long way to go.
1) Muni- I have to say that this cities public transit system is the worst I have ever seen. Nashville Tennessee has a more effiicient system. Mayor Newsom, send some people to New york and Chicago and take a few notes on how to stop illegal Read This Posty »

This city has a tremendous problem that continues to plague its residents and visitors alike, and that is the aggressive panhandling that occurs around Union Square. Guests in our city compare it with visiting a third world country! If San Francisco wants to continue to attract tourist dollars, this issue must be addressed. As a Union Square merchant, I've tried contacting the mayor's office, but to no avail. I have also spoken with the police department about having foot patrol in the area, but they say there is not enough funding. I hear constant complaints from visitors to our city, Read This Posty »

Stepping over homeless people to get to work, to go home, to share the train with homeless people that quite obviously have lice and watch them spend the cash they get from panhandling on alcohol or drugs. When my mother came to visit me she wanted me to move out of San Francisco as soon as possible.

Even though the city has reduced the rolls on GA and attempted to place people in housing this will not stop \"homeless\"(because a lot of them have places they are living) people from begging aggressively to buy booze/drugs even as they receive SSI and other programs. What to do to this truly deplorable quality of life problem that is now turning off tourism to our once jewel of a city.
