Can something be done about the timing of the traffic lights at Mississippi/7th/16th Street? Driving from Mississippi onto 7th, the green light is so short that only 3 or 4 cars can get through before it turns red again. In the evening, this means that traffic is often backed up for multiple cycles of the light. Could this green light be made a little longer, or the one allowing traffic down 16th a little shorter? I realize it's a complicated intersection, with three distinct streets and a Caltrain crossing... but that brings me to another point about this light, that

I am a healthy, 40 year old, run marathons, play tennis, etc. . .. and I walk to the train daily. I can barely get across the street in time ! I have been a pedestrian in Washington DC and Boston, and the time to cross the streets is much longer! 12 seconds to cross Folsom or Harrison in SOMA is just enough time for me, I can't imagine the handicapped!

People don't understand that the lights in SF are TIMED. If they don't go the posted speed, they slow everyone down and create road rage. Seattle posts signs that says that the lights are timed and to go the speed limit. How about we copy their approach?

1. I am a native San Franciscan. As a child I remember going down Geary Street and all the signal lights were synchronized. You never had to stop for a light. I am wondering why this cannot still happen.
2. I live at 23rd and Dolores. It seems like for the last THREE YEARS our streets have been torn up. One project no sooner finishes and another one starts up. We have had cable and then telephone and most recently water and I just got a notice of sewer work for 4 to 5 weeks and then I know that PGE is

How about installing a traffic light at Laguna and Union? That intersection has a lot pedestrian traffic and is a major thoroughfare with the 41 and 45 Muni lines as well as car traffic that connects from Bay Street. In the weekends its nearly gridlocked with pedestrians causing many near misses.
And another thing…. How about you actually fund full staffing of the police department? They are clearly outnumbered and crime is soaring in all parts of the city because there is just not enough coverage. Our current charter limit is killing San Franciscans every single day. With the growing homeland

I live and work near the SF Financial District and walk to work daily. I have noticed, that unlike any of large cities on the East Coast, SF allows right turns on red lights at virtually every light. Due to this, I almost get run over at least twice a day as cars turn on red, often looking to their left as they speed through the red light while dodging pedestrians in the crosswalk. It is especially dangerous on any street that leads to the Bay Bridge. Since San Francisco does not have many traffic police (I rarely see any)

The stop lights in San Francisco, with the exception of a few bus routes, are not synchronized. They require a driver to stop and sit through a long series of lights, creating frustration, smog, traffic and wasted fuel. The drivers quickly learn that if you run one light, you can usually make it through the others due to the poor synchronization. Since there are few, if any traffic police, they often do not get caught. Why not simply set the lights on all major arteries to the speed limit? Washington DC and other major cities do this very effectively. If
