Men urinate on a daily (and nightly) basis in the trees across the street from my building. Taxi drivers, trunk drivers, motorcyclists, businessmen in suits -- they all think that our street is a toilet. I take my dog out there and am afraid to walk among the trees in case I run into a man with his pants down or step in something he left. Help!

Not a peeve but a suggestion. Market Street trees below Van Ness look tired and scraggly. I suggest that you trim them like the California Street trees so that they gain some thickness and body.

I live on Fell St. in between Scott and Divisadero -- a virtual freeway, but with no street trees to soak up the exhaust. I've contacted the appropriate city official to request a tree planting but received no response. This street (and the residents who live on it) desperately needs more trees!
Sincerely,

The city does not maintain or trim its city owned tress in the 1900 to 2400 block of Hyde, or any other block for that matter. When you complain to DPW, nothing happens. Tress are overgrown and dangerous and tearing up sidewalks. Worst of all they grow up into fire escapes, violating city fire code, by blocking egress. I guarantee you nothing will be done because I wrote this.

Not being able to stop a property owner from cutting down 50 Mature ( over 30 yrs old ) that beautify Post st. Gough st. and Geary blvd. because the property owner wants to remake the area : and the Mayor the City won't stop it. DPW will gladly cut them down.

Hello Mayor Newsom. I'm emailing you about 2 code violations regarding a tree at 24th ave, in the sunset. It's too close to a power/light pole and too close to a water utility box. Specifically DPW order # 169,946 sections II.D and II.E. All I want to do is remove the tree. I'm willing to pay for it. Urban Forestry won't let me take it out. I can't afford the lawyer who said for 6-7 thousand in litigation she could have that tree removed. Can't anyone issue some kind of executive order and just grant my request? Please let me Read This Posty »

I have a tree that was planted illegally, it breaks 3 laws on the SF books, but BUF will not allow me to take it out. Please intervene.

Trees in the city need to be trimmed in order for the street lights to illuminate dark sidewalks. Safety and car break-ins are a constant problem in the Western Addition. Night inspections of dark areas would help illuminate the problem.

When I moved to Baker Street between Clay and Washington I asked when the overhead wires would be put underground. I was advised there was a 10 year waiting list. I asked to be put on the list .The wires are still here. That was 30 years ago. Overhead wires are not only ugly, they limit the ability to have trees in proportion to the buildings. Please put the wires underground where they belong here and all over the city.

I live on Monterey Blvd. in the Sunnyside District. The median strip from Forester to Acadia is a wasteland of dirt ,black plastic, weeds and broken and bent trees. There were city plans on the drawing board to plant the median strip with sound deadening plants akin to what has been done on upper Monterey Blvd. as it leads into Westwood Park. Nothing has happened in the years since the proposal was made by the Dept. of Public Works. I even planted a section in wild flowers only to have it ripped up by a maintenance crews who thinks dirt Read This Posty »

It's miserable. It's too cold here. We are trying to grow our own food but it's hopeless. (Thank you for letting me vent.)
Otherwise, I would complain about loud motorcycles and noise pollution mostly from traffic. There are no quiet zones. Not enough trees. And trucks and cars that leave their motors running while parked or double parked.

I like the new trees, but I wish you had used Friends of the Urban Forest for the street-tree plantings in the Sunset. Instead, it looks like you used a contractor who didn't know how to properly plant and care for them. So many dried out and died shortly after planting! Such a waste! The Friends organization teaches that you must water a newly-planted tree for the first YEAR.

Litter and un-tended-to trees on Mason between Malvina and Clay -- overturned garbage cans on Malvina. Owners should be held accountable & responsible.

The city needs to encourage "green streets" by subsidizing street trees, but NOT through FUF (Friends of the Urban Forest). I am very interested in planting a street tree in front of my house, but in order to qualify for a FUF tree I would have to organize 25 of my neighbors and plan 2 neighborhood "planting" meetings. I think city funding would be better spent with direct subsidies for trees to homeowners, instead of going through FUF which makes it very, very difficult to get a tree.

I am writing regarding the lack of the forestry section or whomever is responsible for cutting down overgrown trees, weeds, flowers , trash you name it and it's there. I reported to 311 on 4/12/07 Ticket # 29041 regarding the end of Vernon St. which borders Arch St. and Brotherhood way. The overgrowth in that area has grown so much that it is now a safety and health issue. There use to be a path which leads from the foot of Vernon St. over to Arch and Brotherhood Way which several residents use in order to get to the bus Read This Posty »

I live in the outer Richmond District. Recently, there are funds available to "re-do" the neighborhood. The area under discussion would run from approximately 34th and Balboa to 40th Avenue and Balboa. Along this strip, there are 2 bus lines, contact from 4 schools-Lafayette Grammar, G Washington, Presidio Middle School and St Thomas Apostle, numerous small businesses and a movie theater.
I am all for a renovation of the area. However, the way that the meetings were held, when they where held and the decisions that were made are cause for concern.
The meetings were held and renovations were discussed. Plans were Read This Posty »

People who plant trumpet vines in their yards that spread all over the neighborhood, up trees, behind siding, between buildings and then build up and up to become rat magnets and fire hazzards. People should have to keep their yards clear of crappy trumpet vines.

Hi,
Recently the city planted trees on 26th Street, and I was very pleased to see that happen. Unfortunately, they have died and no city employee (or anyone else for that matter) has watered, fed or taken care of this. I tried calling the number that was sent to the local neighbors (544-4336) no one ever picked up, nor was there a voicemail or even answering machine to leave a message.
What a waste of resources! I would love to see those trees thrive on my street, and I water and feed the trees that I can reach from my house. Read This Posty »
