For many years I have read about the problems of MUNI the biggest always seems to be money.
Recently I have heard of the back door fare cheaters, not being a San Francisco Resident I didn’t think that could be that big a problem, but on Sat. Apr 14 I was to meet a friend at the cow palace and then ride home with her. I took BART to the Balboa Station and then caught a bus to the event.
As I waited for my bus to arrive 3 others came first,
1 12 passengers entered from the front 15 from the rear (no fare)
2 9 " " " " " 11 " " "
3 11 " " " " " 17 " " "
4 12 " " " " " 23 " " " (my bus) as we proceeded toward the cow palace at most stops a hand full got off and 1 or 2 got on all paying, until we got to a transfer station then the back door again became the entrance of choice.
To stop this pass a city ordinance with large progressive fines $50. 1st offence $100. second etc. post a notice of the fines and a start date, on that start date have an plain cloth squad issue citations using part of the revenue to fund the squad. When scoff-Laws realize you are serious the problem will stop. The problem occurs when the crowd obstructs the view of the driver.
