The amount of trash on the streets of San Francisco is ridiculous. As a city, we should be ashamed. I have lived in several cities in the US and no city’s waste pick up is sloppier than it is here. The solution to this? More public garbage cans. More recycling bins for the public. And the frequency that these get emptied needs to increase. Garbage spews out of the sides of the cans. Can we enforce harder rules and regulations on our Garbage men/women that they actually have to gather all the trash and can’t assume it will be picked up by the street cleaners. Have schools and work programs pick up litter in the parks and neighborhoods. The homeless population often scours the garbage cans at night disturbing residences, making an absolute mess and not caring about the environment- if the garbage was picked up for more often, there would be less for them to pillage through. Obviously, we need to put in place a long term solution to the homeless population so that can be stopped too. Through programs, education and rehabilitation facilities, along with an increase in mental institutions to help these people off San Francisco’s dirty streets & hopefully bringing out positive change in many different ways.
