One way to help the complaints of slow public transit is to get rid of many of the bus stops. Buses make so many stops that it takes 35 to 40 minutes to get from Arguello Blvd to Downtown. Maybe you have not noticed, but a bus stops at almost every block, sometimes twice on the same block, at each end of the street. This is ridiculous!
Bus stops should be spaced at about every three blocks, like the limiteds, and at only one corner of that block. Make the limiteds stop at every 5th or 6th block. If you fear a backlash from seniors, think about it this way. If they are waling to the bus stop in the first place, then they can walk a little further. Not only will this help with time issues, but it will help with fuel consumption, brake maintenance, and pollution spewed from the bus.
Do not make MUNI free! It’s already bad enough with having all the people who sneak through the back doors, but once you make
it free, any urine soaked person will take advantage of the bus system.
Speaking of urine. MUNI and the City need to take a stand of NOT allowing homeless people on the bus. It is awful having to smell them for the duration of the ride, not to mention the health standards.
Graffitti and trash. This is a hard one. The thought is to have MUNI officers walking on certain buses, (38, 22, 24, 47…) to start handing out citations to passengers who are in violation. Make the citation where they either have to pay a fine, and make it a large one otherwise no one will care, or they have to spend the weekend cleaning buses.
Thank you
Will
