Muni’s fare evaders have been costing the transit agency millions of dollars a year and now, Mayor Gavin Newsom is considering free rides for all. If that can’t be possible, maybe we could just have free rides during the busy times when people are going to and from work. From 6am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm the rides could be free and the transportation may be a lot smoother during those busy times since the operators don’t have to collect fares. It would also encourage folks to take public transportation. Spare the air, less traffic, etc. And certain employers will no longer have to distribute commuter vouchers to employees - they could just pay Muni directly.

Absolutely ridiculous. If MUNI were free.. even only part time, MORE people would ride… more wear and tear, more trains and busses required, more crowded trains.. AND NO EXTRA MONEY TO PAY FOR IT. Punctuality, quality of service and cleanliness would suffer.
If MUNI is ever made free, I’m going to start driving everywhere instead.
