Having a strong public transit system such as SFMTA is great. The new buses are especially great!
However, one unexpected outcome with the new buses is that controls to open rear doors differ from that of the older buses. For example:
Older buses: Step down to open
New buses: Press handle to open

The problem arises when users become familiar with one type of control (e.g. new buses) fail to recognize the other controls. As a result, some users struggle to open rear doors. The problem is made worse because unlike new buses, there are no signs on older buses with instructions. In fact, a bus driver actually placed hand written signs on the rear doors.
Thus, I propose adding signs on OLDER buses (similar to NEW buses) to instruct users of the buses.
I sent an email using the SFMTA but received no response. Also, their webform did not allow submission of a PICTURE as I have done here. In addition to improving passenger safety, please note that signs have the added benefit of:
* reducing delays in bus services
* decreasing maintenance cost of bus doors
Sincerely,
Kenyon
