Too many bicyclists run stop signs and stop lights. In addition, they do not yield for pedestrians and also ride their bikes on sidewalks.
SF needs bike registration, licensing and policing of some type.
Safe and responsible biking is important, but the lobby of the Bike Coalition and environmental activism for some reason has given bike riders an attitude of non-conformity and irresponsibility.
Smart solution:
– any new bike should sold in SF has to be registered with the city.
– any bike rider must pass a basic "rules of the road" course and get licensed
– the city incent safe riding through "free" bike stations similar to programs in Europe. Anyone who wants to use a "free" bike must register and take a course.
– City tax incentives (no sales tax on bikes perhpas) for people to purchase and ride bikes. Again to get the $$ incentive, they must register and take the course.
