MUNI: exhibit some political will to make a small change which will result in a huge improvement to MUNI bus service — eliminate the "one stop for every block" concept in favor of having bus stops on every other block. Bus service will be dramatically sped up, making it a more attractive prospect for commuters. As a side benefit, hundreds, and potentially thousands of parking spaces (with associated revenue) will open up, too.
DPT: (parking div) This City department is a nightmare tax division for many residents. Badly-trained, and often belligerent, ticket-writers perform their tasks with impunity. When they make mistakes (which they very often do), we who are properly parked must pay an extra hundred $$ or two to the city annually, or endure the fruitless propect of having the organization which issued the citation and itself depends on the revenue decide whether the citation must be paid (via an almost-criminal internal "appeals" process). My solution: equip ALL DPT field personnell with cameras (and perhaps printers) to take photos of every violation for which they issue a citation. This will both prevent costly frauduent appeals, and will minimize the pain for those of us who DO park legally, yet still receive tickets from personnel who don’t know what they’re doing.
