Problem: Not enough city revenues.
Solution: Implement a city and commuter tax, akin to NYC. that way, renters and commuters will pay into the city, and the city will have a steady stream of income without having to continually raise fees that adversely affects quality of life (ie. parking fines, filing fees for superior ct, muni fares, etc.).
Problem: Not enough money to implement bike lanes, etc.
Solution: Every bike owner pays registration fee annually. Money garnered will go towards making safer bike lanes. Also, enforce traffic violations of bikes as well with red light cameras. Bikes could be tracked if they are registered.
Problem: Bad MUNI service.
Solution: Negotiate a new union contract that allows for the firing of drivers more easily thus holding them more accountable for bad service.

Dear Fartknocker, do you really think it will save money to install cameras at red lights that take pictures of bikers, who you would then somehow have to identify?

Really bad ideas.
How about if we create a car tax that goes into making bike lanes and designated bike-only roads throughout SF. That way we can really reduce congestion and polution.
But I do agree that the city should be able to fire bad muni drivers… of course, there wouldn’t be many left.
