Everyone knows that motorcycles and scooters provide San Franciscans with a transportation option with a fraction of the traffic, parking, and carbon emissions footprint of a car. In other words, the city could sustain 4-6 times the number of commuters, shoppers, and parkers if they were on two wheels instead of four.
To maximize their inherent win-win advantages, the City should actively promote the usage of two-wheeled transport. One of the easiest ways to do so is to paint a small motorcycle symbol on every red curb that is too small for a car, but could easily accommodate a scooter.
All too often, I have been ticketed for parking my motorcycle in a red zone that is obviously too small for any car, but ideal for motorcycle parking. As a result, I am forced to occupy an entire car-sized parking space with my small bike. This is bad for my fellow citizens who are in cars, and the merchants who depend on our business.
It would be easy to identify such spots, paint a motorcycle symbol on the red curb, and allow prudent two-wheeled San Franciscans to park there.

I think this is a great idea! I have a motor scooter that I use all the time because it is gas efficient and usually easy to park. In addition to taking advantage of appropriate red curbs (i.e., red because they are too short for a can, not because of fire hydrants, etc) I would also like to see more metered parking available for motorcycles. There has been a huge increase already, but there could be far more metered bike spaces added using the too-small-for-a-car spaces.
