Dear Mr. Mayor,
While the issue of funding and supporting a major sports team is a complicated one, I feel (and kindly hear me out on this) that it would be a gain for San Francisco for the 49ers to relocate to Santa Clara. First–we have always been the center of a regional metropolis. Having our team be based in Santa Clara enhances, rather than diminishes, our regional influence, in the same way the siting of the New England Patriots in Foxborough south of Boston provides convenience to a larger metropolitan community while reinforcing the predominance of the urban core of the New England region. Secondly, greater access for more people in the Bay Area can only enhance the success of our team. Forcing the team to take on the name of a subsidiary area is pointless and goes against our natural role in the region. Thirdly, microclimate conditions in Santa Clara broadcast to a national and global television audience can also only favor our region, in the same way that the Pasadena Rose Bowl broadcasts the natural regional advantage of Los Angeles. In short, I feel that San Francisco is already the acknowledged primary city of an important global urban area, and whether games are played within our city limits our elsewhere, the factors listed above that can prove more favorable to the experience of our team’s fans must be regarded in light of what best serves the region, of which San Francisco is the natural leader.
All best wishes,
Sean Ketchem

Why not just join the CFL and give up the pipe dream of competing at the NFL level? It would save the city a lot of embarrasment and money.
