Most cars are speeding in s.f. and we need to make the speed limit 25 mph. A lot of jay walkers and people are getting killed because they do not come to a complete stop at corners turning and the pedestrian comes first. Put cameras taking pictures of speeding, and red light runners and give them a $500.00 fine or do community service work. Have a great day.

The speed limits already are 25 in a lot of places and this is ridiculously low. It’s very possible to drive much faster on many streets, especially in areas South of Market, closer to 40mph.
Pedestrians should come first in crosswalks when they cross on a green light. But jaywalkers mid-block and even at crosswalks who cross against the light should do so at their own risk. Drivers should not be held responsible for pedestrians who disobey traffic signals just as pedestrians should not be held responsible for drivers who don’t yield to pedestrians when the pedestrians have the right of way.
Yes, at crosswalks, when pedestrians have the signal, cars should yield to them. If they don’t they should be ticketed. But I drive, walk, and take public transit in the city. I get angry when cars almost run me over when I have a green light to cross and I get equally mad when I’m driving and pedestrians are crossing against the light.
There should be no double standard here. It’s very simple. Whoever has the signal, has the right to cross. Whoever disobeys the signal, and causes an accident should be responsible for tha accident - whether a pedestrian or motorist.
