Pilot Truancy Program
June 29th, 2007 8:03 am

Test a truancy program to measure its potential impact on diminishing crime in target neighborhoods, like the Western Addition. It seems to be a best practice in several major urban cities.  I also understand that violent crime is increasingly committed by youngsters.  Name Withheld Read This Post »

Reduce Crime
June 29th, 2007 8:01 am

Lift all restrictions on guns. Allow citizens to be armed as the Constitution demands. The criminals will be scared and the police will get a few days off. There will be less need for attorneys because the criminals will never stand trial. We the people demand the right to defend ourselves. (By the way, your gun laws mean nothing to most of us; we plan to defend our homes and families even if it is illegal to do so) Kevin Byers Read This Post »

Taxicab Rider Bill of Rights
June 26th, 2007 2:14 pm

I'm in Manhattan for a couple days.  And I was wondering why don't we have one of these in our City?  I hate the way our cabbies are always on their phone.  Also, I love the flat fares to and from the City to the Airport. http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/passenger/taxicab_rights.shtml James Read This Post »

Wind Energy
June 26th, 2007 9:09 am

The new building at City College that is about to be built over the old reservoirs could serve as a wind generating station. It sits smack dab in the middle of the Alemany wind corridor. If the proposed lots were actually removed and the building built a little higher and with a concave design facing west, it could funnel wind below the building through the lots. This would also help the heating costs of the other campus buildings as it would slow down the wind. Its very difficult to find places to put wind turbines but this is perfect for Read This Post »

Banning Bottled Water
June 25th, 2007 8:29 am

YES, YES, YES!!!!!! A million thank-yous, Mayor, for pointing out the tremendous harm that we are doing with bottled water. It is beyond ridiculous to put plastic into the environment to decompose for thousands of years every time we take a drink of water. I know you realize that people are drinking bottled water because it's "the thing to do"- they don't even care where it comes from as long as it comes in a bottle. Seriously- if you're buying Costco brand bottled water to save money, doesn't that say you don't care what kind of water you're drinking? So Read This Post »

Ban on Bottled Water
June 25th, 2007 8:26 am

Dear Mayor Newsom, I just read about your ban on bottled water for the City of San Francisco.  I want to applaud your effort in taking another proactive step towards reducing waste, the use of plastic and reducing factors for global warming.  If more mayors and/ or citizens were more concerned enough about the environment to recognize the impact of our actions, we would be farther ahead in reducing global warming.  Best regards, Judi Read This Post »

Bike Lanes and More Traffic Light Timers
June 25th, 2007 8:17 am

1)  We need separate lane just for bicycle (next to pedestrian pavement) like Europe, instead of letting the bicyclist ride through the traffic & pedestrians dangerously.   2)  We need more traffic light timers on 19th Avenue to avoid unnecessary accidents for crossroad pedestrians, esp. for the seniors and people with leg & knee problem.  Instead, we have traffic light timers on 7th Avenue and not on 9th Avenue in Sunset. Wider road or Blvd need timer as it takes longer time to cross.   Thank you! Vivienne Read This Post »

Bayview WiFi, Public Housing and Illegal In-laws
June 25th, 2007 8:13 am

1.  If you can't get the Supervisors to approve a city-wide Deal with Google for free WiFi, how about proposing a pilot program to bring in to the Bayview NOW!  Give them a year or two to perform, and then go for a city-wide deal. 2.  No one would live in public housing given a chance.  They breed gangs and violence.  Do not re-build public housing.  Better to tear them down, build individual houses, and give them away to the occupants.  At least this would give them the opportunity to share in the American Dream. 3.  Please go after owners of houses Read This Post »

SF Gasoline Refinery
June 22nd, 2007 12:05 pm

Should the city look into investing in a gasoline refinery to supply citizens of the area with a consistent source. It is a public necesity just like telephone or water or electricity. How does cable TV manage to get government control when it is used less universally than gasoline. Part two should the city look into making gasoline come under the control of the public utilities commission it is that valuable and in that much of a need to be controlled. Trash Cans Outside Restaurants
June 22nd, 2007 12:04 pm

That the restaurants were to be made responsible for the trash containers within a block or two of their establishment. You said a good portion of the trash is fast food in origin they have trash at the free standing sites. Some additional distance would be helpful, yes? Alan Carson Read This Post »

Please put a bus shelter at the corner of Industrial and Bayshore (24 bus)
June 22nd, 2007 12:01 pm

There is a preschool that has been there for 32 years and parents and kids have to wait out in the rain, wind etc. for the bus.  Also, put pedestrian signs and paint the road at the end of Loomis and Industrial next to Big City Montessori to facilitate the little ones getting across the street safely. Background Checks for SFPD
June 20th, 2007 8:10 am

I read the article in the newspaper today regarding the Sgt. that was a veteran in the police department that was arrested in Oakland.  Just a opinion maybe you should establish on doing a background investigation that is done every three to five years after the officer(s) is hire on the job., that way the department could develop more information on the officers if any and also do random urine test too.  Maybe this could prevent less embarrassment to the department in the future. Traffic - I80 East/101N
June 20th, 2007 8:09 am

I have a solution (ok not solution, but something that will help the problem) for the traffic slowdown that occurs daily on the 101 N approach to the 101N/I80East intersection.  The first set of signs that alert drivers to the intersection of these two highways and the approach of the bay bridge need to be switched around/combined.  People FREAK out (translation: slow down) when they read the signs at this point on 101 N that seem to say you only have access to the Bay bridge from one lane, the second from the left center divide), and everyone tries to Read This Post »

Clean Streets
June 18th, 2007 8:52 am

Take a ride on the street sweepers in each neighborhood. Notice how most streets can not be cleaned because of parked cars in violation of posted street sweeping times. Then ask yourself why none of those cars are ticketed?  And then ask yourself why the DPW is experiencing a budget shortfall.  Street cleaning is the only effort we have to make any improvement in the litter strewn make-up of this city and the street sweepers can NOT get to the litter if cars are parked in violation and those cars park in violation, because they are not ticketed.
