Sandoval’s mobbing idea
July 26th, 2007 9:27 am

You would help your city employees by stating your position in writing on Sandoval's workplace mobbing idea at the board. Mobbing occurs a lot at SFGH. Be brave and solve this problem asap. We need you asap. Douglas Yep Read This Post »

Design opportunities for young designers
July 25th, 2007 9:28 am

There should be an effort to encourage young designers to help improve certain areas of our city. There are many examples of places and things that an investment in good design could really improve, or make work better. The temporary police barriers on the Embarcadero near the ballpark separating the MUNI tracks and Hallidie Plaza are two examples of design opportunities. Just having a well-designed, beautiful solution, however, would be missing the opportunity to encourage young and talented designers in San Francisco to participate in the effort. There should be more design Read This Post »

Geneva Ave. for the 49ers
July 25th, 2007 9:27 am

There is a tremendous amount of open land at the end of Geneva Ave. to the east. I have heard that the land is owned by the railroad. If this is true why not work with them to build the stadium there? It is close to the freeway. The new 3rd street Muni Metro line stops close by, and a Caltrain station is also close by. You could even work a historical rail theme into the stadium by including a railroad museum. Currently the land appears to only contain a couple of old dilapidated buildings some unused rail, and tons Read This Post »

Violence in Bayshore/Hunter’s Point
July 24th, 2007 8:25 am

I am very concerned about the violence that continues to persist in the Bayshore and Hunter's Point neighborhoods in the city.  The conviction rate is unacceptable and I see firsthand how these families are affected (I manage a men's store in the Bayshore area).  I suggest that we work at a very grassroots level to bring attention to this issue that will not just go away.  I suggest Sophie Maxwell demand that these areas get more attention from the Board in terms of community involvement and resources needed to combat the crime, but also to educate these mostly young individuals Read This Post »

Exempt senior landlords who live in their buildings from rent control
July 24th, 2007 8:23 am

San Francisco touts itself as a green city. But if green success means using -- and reusing available resources = then the city policies fail the test. Nowhere is this more true than housing. Everyone agrees that SF needs more middle class housing. Yet there are hundreds -- if not thousands -- of vacant units owned by senior landlords. Most of these landlords live in these buildings and keep units vacant out of fear. They know that city rent control policies  -- and all buildings constructed before 1978 are under rent control -- has eroded their rights to the point Read This Post »

Bring JROTC back into San Francisco public high schools!
July 24th, 2007 8:22 am

Taking away JROTC out of the schools took away one more opportunity for students to develop themselves in a positive way, i.e. self discipline and self esteem, and also to pursue a career of their own choosing.  My son was in JROTC and our whole family has nothing but praise for this program. No one was forced to take JROTC.  If you have a problem with JROTC, then don't take it.  Simple as that.  It's called freedom. The school board's decision to dump this highly popular program was not made with the best interests of the students in mind, but to selfishly Read This Post »

Beat Officers with Community Justice Center
July 23rd, 2007 3:58 pm

Would like to mention that the Community Justice Center is very effective but only if there are foot patrolmen to assist these unfortunate people go to the center. I realize that the PBA is very much against "beat police" but it is a proven and effective crime deterrent. We very badly need their presence in the Union Square area. Tourists avoid this area...read what Ichiro Suzuki, the great Japanese baseball player says about downtown San Francisco. Doesn't shop here any more. I have personally been told by dozens of visitors that they avoid the Union Square area because of its shoddy appearance Read This Post »

“Green Lighting”
July 23rd, 2007 9:29 am

What with all the push to use 'green' fluorescent lighting, has anyone addressed the disposal of the spent lamps?  Since they contain mercury and are dangerous to the environment, I would suggest that an educational poster be required at all sales outlets to instruct the consumer about the proper disposal method. City Solar Fund
July 23rd, 2007 9:27 am

Summary First, define measurable objectives.  Next, identify and implement strategies to reach the objectives. Sample objective: Set target energy generation goals for the private sector.  For example: By 2010  -  2 Megawatts     (500 homes with 2KW systems) By 2020  - 10 Megawatts    (2,500 homes with 2KW systems) Sample Strategies to reach objectives Educational campaign to educate building owners of potential energy cost reduction. Provide city funded financial incentives such as:     - Property tax relief through a "Renewable Energy Exemption" -  Property Transfer Fee reduction for solar enabled homes. - Reduced or free building permits for solar installations done by approved contractors - Interest only loans to homeowners - principle Read This Post »

2 MUNI Trains at Underground Platforms
July 23rd, 2007 9:20 am

Underground MUNI platforms are easily long enough to accommodate two dual-car trains- why not use them? It would double speed for loading & unloading- and would help alleviate the situation of the driver going "offline" to pull into a station when another train is stuck in the "loading position." Bike Fee and New MUNI contract
July 23rd, 2007 9:18 am

Problem:  Not enough city revenues. Solution: Implement a city and commuter tax, akin to NYC. that way, renters and commuters will pay into the city, and the city will have a steady stream of income without having to continually raise fees that adversely affects quality of life (ie. parking fines, filing fees for superior ct, muni fares, etc.). Problem:  Not enough money to implement bike lanes, etc. Solution:  Every bike owner pays registration fee annually. Money garnered will go towards making safer bike lanes. Also, enforce traffic violations of bikes as well with red light cameras. Bikes could be tracked if they Read This Post »

Paint a motorcycle symbol on the red curb
July 23rd, 2007 9:16 am

Gavin< Everyone knows that motorcycles and scooters provide San Franciscans with a transportation option with a fraction of the traffic, parking, and carbon emissions footprint of a car.  In other words, the city could sustain 4-6 times the number of commuters, shoppers, and parkers if they were on two wheels instead of four. To maximize their inherent win-win advantages, the City should actively promote the usage of two-wheeled transport.  One of the easiest ways to do so is to paint a small motorcycle symbol on every red curb that is too small for a car, but could easily accommodate a scooter.  All Read This Post »

Chris Daly
July 23rd, 2007 9:15 am

Get him a ticket to Hawaii.  Maybe he needs a long vacation! In all seriousness, this guy needs to be taken off of the Board of Supervisors.  He is totally out of control and his displays of threatening behavior indicate some serious psychological problems.  He could pose a very dangerous threat to anyone that opposes him.  He needs to be held accountable for his recent behavior.  He should be removed from the Board of Supervisors.  I will be emailing all the Supervisors with my opinion of this volatile situation.  He is an embarrassment and a danger.  Ciao!   P.Fitzgerald Read This Post »

Homeless vs Education
July 23rd, 2007 9:12 am

I'd like to see us come up with a 10 year plan to reduce homeless funding to zero in the next 10 years.  Cut it 10% per year and give it to the public schools instead.  I'd wager that this will cause the homeless to venture to other cities naive enough to think they can make a difference with their cash. Corporate Mandate for Recycling Campaign
July 19th, 2007 3:27 pm

Dear Gavin Newsom, San Francisco is doing a great job in leading the nation in the Green Earth effort.  However I do have a suggestion about the recycling of plastic bottles in the U.S.. I feel that legislation is necessary to mandate recycling, by forcing companies like Coca Cola whom also owns a big portion of the bottled water industry rights, to advertise in their commercials, the fact that recycling is a necessary part of going green, as millions of gallons of oil are used to make these bottles.  People need to be reminded that by not recycling plastic, it's just Read This Post »

S.F. General Hospital
July 17th, 2007 8:28 am

SFGH needs an immediate audit of two depts---opd and xrays. Is it true that any audit is being blocked by the G.A./O. COMMITTEE of the board??? The new health access plan and the upcoming SFGH bond issue needs a reformed SFGH, not a wasteful/inefficient provider of service. There are witnesses who can give you necessary details. Clinton and Nixon both learned that the cover-up is alot worse than the original violations. Honest Abe just wants to help you. Read This Post »

Quality of Life & Crime
July 17th, 2007 8:26 am

My solution is that you finally sack up and cash in your high approval ratings. To your credit; yet, regardless of merit... you've been afforded exceptionally high approval ratings. Thereby, you're running virtually unopposed. However, this will not be the case 4-years from now when you run for a bigger, more conservative office. Use today to win tomorrow. Let's clean up our city sidewalks. First, dump Heather Fong. Next, create a centralized jail to house the homeless. Run it like 3 hots and a cot for three months at a time. Use the incarceration to aid education, medication or behavior Read This Post »

Water Bottle for Ban
July 11th, 2007 5:17 pm

an Idea: What if the city designed and sold a nice water bottle (dishwasher safe, recycleable, etc. ) that residents could fill up with tap water (and ice?) instead of constantly buying small bottles of water?  If it was well-designed, with a nice San Francisco logo, with proceeds going to improving city services/cleaning up the streets (homelessness, etc.) it could become "hip" to support the city and the environment as we hydrate ourselves. This way  individuals could contribute to this environment push as well. Just an idea... Thanks, Barbara Read This Post »
