Dear Mayor Newsom
I suggest your I T origination look into Wi-Max vs Wi-Fi. A leap frog in technology would give the city a real advantage.

1. I was at last week's community building meeting w/ the Mayor at his HQ, where he told me that education reform - in reference to low income/at risk youth schools, where we have totally neglected the Latino and African American populace - will take 20 years. While I am a realist, this projection is unacceptable - to put it mildly. The fact that we even have low-income schools is a ridiculous notion for a city with such business and real estate wealth. I suggested adopting a school model from a succesful state, such as Minnesota. I feel a complete Read This Post »

Dear Mayor,
As you know, a lot of young people in the Bay Area, and particularly in San Francisco love to skateboard!! Our city attracts lots of skateboarders because of its beauty and terrain. The current skateboard park at Crocker Amazon is not good because it doesn’t cater to skaters of different proficiency levels. In addition, the location is incredibly windy! Please help youth keep out of trouble while practicing a healthy and demanding sport. On behalf of San Francisco youth, I urge you to allocate money in the budget to build a new skateboard park! Thanks!

Poll citizens to obtain average hour of departure for work. Raise base DPT parking time to start no earlier than average. For example, my street bans parking from 6am to 8am; typically, I leave for work at 8:00am. Set street cleaning start times no earlier than, e.g., 8am (or whatever the average departure time is for citizens).

I drive Geary Street every day to work and every once in a while, I see a gang of motorcycle cops pulling people over for speeding. Usually, the motorcycle cops take over Geary street in response to a SF Chronicle report about pedestrian fatalities.
People don't know that the speed limit on Geary is 25. In fact, most people drive it like it's 35 or more. Solution?
Well, first of all, the traffic lights on Geary Street all turn green or red AT THE SAME TIME. I think that ENCOURAGES people to speed so that they can get through as many Read This Post »

It's time to rethink condominium conversion policies. As a very recent buyer of a TIC in Nob Hill I must say this was the most difficult transaction I have ever experienced. And now that I own my percent of this building I dread facing the challenge of condo-conversion. Why convert? Because TICs are risky in so much as you share a deed (and often a loan) with other owners. If a co-owner goes into default it can jeopardize the property. A subdivided condominium releases you from the liability of other owners and is a more desirable property status to have Read This Post »

Yesterday I sat through one of the Mayor's "Meet Locally" meetings. Oddly, I found myself with nothing to say. This isn't because I am terribly shy, mute, or an unconcerned citizen. Rather, it's because I am so utterly impressed with the City of San Francisco and the progress the Mayor has made in our city that I have very little to gripe about. I found it to be a meeting of informed, caring citizens who sincerely want to keep our fair city a wonderful place to live.
I do, however, have one idea to contribute and perhaps this blog entry Read This Post »

Yes, we all need to drive more carefully. but we need a barrage of multi-lingual PSA's to educate / re-educate us on when to cross and when to stay on the curb. and some very public enforcement of jay walking would help.

Since the city doesn't seem to care about keeping the trees trimmed & the flowers on the light poles watered, you should remove the trees or just chop off all the low hanging branches up to about 9 feet so I can walk on the sidewalk without feeling like I'm running a gauntlet and take down the hanging flowers. They only really look good near city hall but around my house, they're all brown, dead and smell bad.

I often miss out on events being held just down the street from me in Golden Gate Park. I'd love if there were some sort of master website that listed all the "events" (street fairs, concerts, celebrations, etc.) going on. In my vision, organizers would be asked if they want to be included in a community calendar when they submit their paperwork for the permits they need to use city property or close down streets. The website would include information like the date(s) of the event, type of event, and whether or not there is an entry fee, along with Read This Post »

I recently set up a video surveillance system for a store here in Modesto (I'm a Chronicle reader) and wanted to express some things we discovered. First, Ebay was the best deal for equipment and hong kong dealers better yet with 10 days wait for delivery.
Trying to solve our night surveillance issues we learned that the night vision cameras are basically a camera that operates in dim light and they have an led flashlight to light the darkness, more led's the brighter. Problem is that to see what's going on you need to see the area from a distance and Read This Post »

I don't care if it is with Earthlink or city-owned. It is embarrassing that a hi-tech city lacks what others have. Thank you.

Manage Lincoln Park GC effectively to bring it up to where it should be (and has been in the past) as a functioning golf course. It will be a great future asset to SF. Making money is not the bottom line in SF Quality of life is.

The following are 2 of the many boxes to check off on the California 540 form:
Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Program.. ? 53
CA Sea Otter Fund....................... ? 63
Is there any way the mayor can lobby the Senate, the Assembly and the governor to add a box for more police and CHP?
The governor was forced to loan the city of Oakland CHP officers, and god knows they are needed, Richmond, San Francisco and L.A.
No more Newarks. No more daylight (or night time) assassinations be it Newark, Oakland or Western Addition.
Sincerely,

Over the past year, I've slowly been replacing my traditional batteries with rechargeable batteries for all of my small appliances, like the cordless mouse and keyboard, the milk frother, even the entertainment remotes. I'm curious if city offices also utilize rechargeable batteries for battery-operated office equipment. I'd also love to see incentives for people who purchase rechargeable batteries and chargers - at any time in the city a person can find traditional batteries on sale - but it's much harder to find the eco-friendly rechargeable batteries available at a price that is accessible by all San Francisco residents. Why not deputize some new officers strictly for traffic enforcement and have them routinely patrol different areas for pesky traffic infractions, e.g., sidewalk parking, driveways, over-the-curb parking, etc. I guess they couldn't stop autos for moving violations, but it sure would be nice to see more of that kind of enforcement. The city coffers would be overflowing (and probably cover the cost plus some). Not a day goes by that someone doesn't try to run me over, either running a red light, or not stopping at a turn when I'm ready to cross. (I have to pay Read This Post »

Better enforcement of "no parking" in Pine Street and Bush Street traffic lanes and ticketing double parkers in neighborhood and Downtown commercial areas. Traffic to and from Downtown from the Western areas of SF can be dramatically improved if double parking during rush hour is eliminated and if people do not park in traffic lanes before the allowed time. For example, on Pine Street outbound, parking is not allowed until 7 pm. People regularly begin parking in the traffic lanes just after 6 pm because they know that the zones are not enforced. Traffic backs up as a result. Read This Post »

Since the Cruise Terminal project has failed, why not develop the pier into an outdoor concert hall similar to the Chicago waterfront concert space designed by Frank Gehry? This would be a great addition to the city and the infrastructure is there already with AT&T Park and Muni. The setting would be world class by the bay and the bridge. The retrofit in the pier should be less for an outdoor concert space compared to a full building. A public and private partnership could provide funding.

We should move, cautiously, toward eliminating some MUNI stops. I'm out here near 19th Avenue & Judah. There are stops at Judah & 12th Avenue and one block away at Judah & Funston. This never made sense to me. Perhaps we can start with this one. I know it's just one, but we could use all the good karma we can get.

Add time notification boards to the Muni #10 bus route bus stops. Now that the #15 line is gone, many of us in Northern SF have switched to the #10 to get to work downtown SF. Thank you.

The Rec and Park Department has historically favored basketball and volleyball when allocating hours in the City's Rec Center Gyms. However, the huge Asian population in the City overwhelmingly favors badminton. But most City gyms only offer badminton for a few hours per week, while the lion's share goes to \"traditional\" sports which can be played outdoors anyways. So the gyms get packed on badminton night, you have to wait an hour to play 20 minutes, and people get frustrated and turned off. Please have Rec and Park reprioritize itself to reflect the real needs of Read This Post »
