Dear Mayor Gavin Newsom,
As a suggestion, when the troops return home from Iraq, the City of San Francisco should celebrate all troops by having a celebration (of some sort) for the troops. I'm not sure how it will all work out but it would be nice if we could have a celebration party or ceremony for them. Just a suggestion.
Thank You and Take Care.

I spent over 30 years in law enforcement and am sad to see the state of the city and the morale of the SFPD heading south as each day
passes.
Now for the easy solution to the homeless problem that was never pursued and apparently has no backing from businesses or spineless city officials because of that dumb "let's not offend anyone rule"
RECLAIM THE SHOPPING CARTS AND RETURN THEM TO THEIR OWNERS (BUSINESSES) - WITHOUT THE HOMELESS FOLKS' "CONDOS ON WHEELS" THERE WILL BE LESS HOMELESS, LESS CRIME, LESS PUBLIC NUISANCES AND A CLEANER CITY.
There was this suggestion on the table awhile Read This Post »

I think the solution is to set up more surveillance cameras in the high crime areas and have the police officers view and monitor the surveillance cameras like Chicago PD does.
Investing money in the GPS machine that detects were gunshots are fired at, I think it would be a waste of money, especially when you can spend that money on important areas that are needed. Do you think the police officers would be able to respond to the scene quick enough and catch the suspect on hand. If so then more power to the device, if not it would be Read This Post »

Here's an idea you'll never use: Focus on San Francisco residents before tourists. Start with the cable car lines. Why is it that if I want to take a cable car from Powell/Market to say North Beach to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend, I have to wait in an unreasonable cable car line full of people who only desire to ride it all the way to the end? Allow people with monthly fast passes to skip the line. There are so few of them relative to the tourists in line that the affect on tourist wait times will Read This Post »

Mr. Newsom, please take on Muni. Clean house. I understand your powers are limited in that area, but the city needs leadership on this issue. and i fear that only your office can provide it.

Fix MUNI. I'm so sick of this same complaint. The biggest problem is that it's unionized. Dissolve the whole damn thing and start from scratch without a union, and competant people managing it or let a private company do it. End the days of MUNI hiring any idiot, make race IRRELEVENT in the hiring process and place emphasis on competance and ability and who's best for the job, then hold people ACCOUNTABLE (i.e. fire bad employees!). Come to think of it, the entire city could benefit from this outlook.

Why can't he just be replaced with the #2 or #3 person who ran in the election against him, if they are still interested?

The F Line does not serve the local residents along the Embarcadero on weekends -- Once it loads up at Fisherman's Wharf it simply zooms right by all the people along the route.
Why doesn't the driver allow the car to fill up only half way before departing the Wharf, leaving some room for the poor jerks along the way who depend on this mode of transportation to have a chance to catch a ride? Simple solution, no? I phoned the Muni, and was told "it would cost too much"!

When I look outside of my window, I see 1000's of square feet of empty roofs. Why don't building owners put plants on their roofs? It would clean the air, look better, and help the greenhouse effect by absorbing absorbing light. Would you find a way to require building owners to do this? Encourage it? Maybe get the legal troubles with Citi Apartments dropped if they green all of their roofs?
Secondly, is there a way to encourage buildings to shut off the lights at night. All I see is waste when so many lights are on in the Financial Read This Post »

The Gun Buy-Back program should be 24 hours, year round and available in all police stations. A person has short temper to shoot may be attracted to a short wait of money, too.

While we’re at it, why does the City of SF own the airport? Why don’t we sell it, as London did with Heathrow? It would net us $billions. Then again, the mayor and supes would have $billions to spend…never mind.

1) All Muni bus time/location should be displayed on the web, by the bus-stop, or even in the near-by stores. This will be really warm feels to riders because it's not the matter how long it waits, it's matter when the bus comes.
2) Gun purchase should be a 24-hours, year round program because a person having a short temper to shoot would have a short waiting for money, too. Bottom line, a safer city.

Almost 2/3 of CCSF's RN Fall 07 class are out of county residents. Universal Health care for SF residents is great but who will staff the centers when our own community college is educating and training residents of other counties to become nurses. In the event of disaster, where does SF want a good number of their nurses to be: at home in another county or right here in SF? Don't we rely on our community college to serve our community? Looking at the numbers, the admissions policy into CCSF's RN program does exactly the opposite! When it comes to Read This Post »

They are visible, watchful, and able to make friends. They reduce crime by their being on the beat. We need to do this now in San Francisco.
It works in New York, Chicago and even in sprawling east Los Angeles
Until crime is arrested in san francisco every other thing is way down the list in my opinion. thank you.
Gangs are made up of kids are either unloved or not protected in our schools from bullies. They join for strength and protection. Only after joining do they realize the fatal challenges of gang life. It starts in homes where Read This Post »

I saw the article in today's SF Chronicle (9/20/7) about MUNI not collecting ridership and transit time data. Why not get some town-gown partnerships going? It would be simple and inexpensive to contact public policy, political science and transportation programs at local colleges and universities--SF state, USF and UC Berkeley, for example--there would be senior undergraduate and master's students who'd benefit as interns exercising their research and data collection skills on behalf of the community, and who could assist in preparing reports. This would also be a way to introduce these students to possible careers working for the City-County of Read This Post »

Why should I be paying for the health expenses of others who are not willing to pay for their own insurance? How many of these people that are enrolled in your universal heath care are illegal immigrants? It is time that you enforce the laws that the tax paying citizens have established.

Actually, I just want to express appreciation for the city FINALLY taking this matter seriously, and putting the citizenry first for a change. Please, please keep up the promised sweeps and relocations/offers of services.
Thanks.

Full dental care for G. A. recipients comparable to PAES recipients. Low Income Studios per the Planning Commission and Dennis Herrera: add more to the developers now. There is no need to delay the plans for such units.

The sleepy southeast quadrant of San Francisco is buzzing with activity first came the Ballpark, then the new UC Medical Center and all the accompanying activity at Mission Bay and soon, perhaps, a new football stadium and thousands of new homes at Hunters Point.
We just spent a day at the Tate Modern in London. The revitalization of the Thames' south bank is largely due to the visionaries who placed the Tate Modern there.
Think of the effect of having the Donald Fisher's Contemporary Art Museum located on our southeast bay shore near Pier 70/Potrero Point!

If there were a program where homeless people were required to perform some sort task (trash collection in parks, painting over graffiti) for a small stipend I can guarantee you that the city would be cleaner and the majority of the homeless would go elsewhere.
