We have a large fine for parking in bus zones, so that the buses can pull in.  Many of the bus drivers don't bother to pull into the stop or they pull in at a 45 degree angle.  If we can issue tickets to drivers of cars who park in bus zones, we can issue tickets (and force drivers to pay them) who can't manage to use the bus zone. One way to help the complaints of slow public transit is to get rid of many of the bus stops. Buses make so many stops that it takes 35 to 40 minutes to get from Arguello Blvd to Downtown. Maybe you have not noticed, but a bus stops at almost every block, sometimes twice on the same block, at each end of the street. This is ridiculous!   Bus stops should be spaced at about every three blocks, like the limiteds, and at only one corner of that block. Make the limiteds stop at every 5th or 6th block. How about fare machines at bus stops?  I would advocate a system like BART with prepaid cards that have to be run through a machine to release the turnstyles, even on busses.  These could be available at bus stops through credit or cash. Though this would create an onus on seniors and children to purchase their tickets as monthly or weekly passes so they can get a discount, it would greatly simplify the fare structure, and allow for far greater revenue from fare collection.
