Drugs and Gangs
January 27th, 2008 4:13 pm

Run a campaign to boycott gangs:  "If you have to buy, buy from someone other than gangs."  It won't get rid of the drug problem but it will disperse the violence and murders cause by gangs. For drugs, try licensing (medicinal) drug use like marijuana; legalize low-dosage drugs for recreational use. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Communications between SFPD & DPT
December 19th, 2007 3:35 pm

Communications between the SFPD and the DPT should be improved for situations where citizens have had their vehicles stolen. My vehicle was stolen and recovered with damage when the DPT was issuing a citation as the theives abandoned it on a public street. I have since attempted to reconcile this matter by phone. The first time I called, I was on hold with DPT for over 45 minutes at which time I opted to hang up. I was able to get through to them today and am sending a letter explaining my situation. In a nut shell, it seems entirely Read This Posty »

Take down the hanging flower baskets
October 26th, 2007 9:32 am

Let's take down all of the hanging flower baskets and use the resources to make our neighborhood safe. I've noticed that all of the flowers in the Civic Center and around City Hall look healthy and fresh - but along 3rd Street especially between Folsom & Townsend - they are quickly drying out, many have dead spots and trash in them. Maybe the city has already cut back on maintaining them. The real priority for lower Rincon Hill/Eastern SOMA should be protection. My friend's car was broken into two weeks ago, one of my neighbors was raped and a guy Read This Posty »

Doing the Time
October 16th, 2007 10:19 am

Unfortunately, the longer they are in jail, the more friends they make and the more likely they are to stay in SF when released.  If they do the crime, they do the time.  Then they should be sent back where they came from. Gretchen Cotter Read This Posty »

Homelessness and crime in my neighborhood

Crime Surevillance Cameras
September 26th, 2007 10:35 am

I think the  solution is to set up more surveillance cameras in the high crime areas and have the police officers view and monitor the surveillance cameras like Chicago PD does.   Investing money in  the GPS machine that detects were gunshots are fired at, I think it would be a waste of money, especially when you can spend that money on important areas that are needed.  Do you think the police officers would be able to respond  to the scene quick enough and catch the suspect on hand.  If so then more power to the device, if not it would be Read This Posty »

24 Hr. Gun Buy-Back Program
September 25th, 2007 8:22 am

The Gun Buy-Back program should be 24 hours, year round and available in all police stations. A person has short temper to shoot may be attracted to a short wait of money, too. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Police that walk beats meet and greet local folks
September 21st, 2007 8:53 am

They are visible, watchful, and able to make friends. They reduce crime by their being on the beat. We need to do this now in San Francisco. It works in New York, Chicago and even in sprawling east Los Angeles Until crime is arrested in san francisco every other thing is way down the list in my opinion. thank you. Gangs are made up of kids are either unloved or not protected in our schools from bullies. They join for strength and protection. Only after joining do they realize the fatal challenges of gang life. It starts in homes where Read This Posty »

Violence in Bayshore/Hunter’s Point
July 24th, 2007 8:25 am

I am very concerned about the violence that continues to persist in the Bayshore and Hunter's Point neighborhoods in the city.  The conviction rate is unacceptable and I see firsthand how these families are affected (I manage a men's store in the Bayshore area).  I suggest that we work at a very grassroots level to bring attention to this issue that will not just go away.  I suggest Sophie Maxwell demand that these areas get more attention from the Board in terms of community involvement and resources needed to combat the crime, but also to educate these mostly young individuals Read This Posty »

Beat Officers with Community Justice Center
July 23rd, 2007 3:58 pm

Would like to mention that the Community Justice Center is very effective but only if there are foot patrolmen to assist these unfortunate people go to the center. I realize that the PBA is very much against "beat police" but it is a proven and effective crime deterrent. We very badly need their presence in the Union Square area. Tourists avoid this area...read what Ichiro Suzuki, the great Japanese baseball player says about downtown San Francisco. Doesn't shop here any more. I have personally been told by dozens of visitors that they avoid the Union Square area because of its shoddy appearance Read This Posty »

Quality of Life & Crime
July 17th, 2007 8:26 am

My solution is that you finally sack up and cash in your high approval ratings. To your credit; yet, regardless of merit... you've been afforded exceptionally high approval ratings. Thereby, you're running virtually unopposed. However, this will not be the case 4-years from now when you run for a bigger, more conservative office. Use today to win tomorrow. Let's clean up our city sidewalks. First, dump Heather Fong. Next, create a centralized jail to house the homeless. Run it like 3 hots and a cot for three months at a time. Use the incarceration to aid education, medication or behavior Read This Posty »

Pilot Truancy Program
June 29th, 2007 8:03 am

Test a truancy program to measure its potential impact on diminishing crime in target neighborhoods, like the Western Addition. It seems to be a best practice in several major urban cities.  I also understand that violent crime is increasingly committed by youngsters.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Reduce Crime
June 29th, 2007 8:01 am

Lift all restrictions on guns. Allow citizens to be armed as the Constitution demands. The criminals will be scared and the police will get a few days off. There will be less need for attorneys because the criminals will never stand trial. We the people demand the right to defend ourselves. (By the way, your gun laws mean nothing to most of us; we plan to defend our homes and families even if it is illegal to do so) Kevin Byers Read This Posty »

Hotline to Report Misdeamenors
June 7th, 2007 9:04 am

Raise pubic awareness and deter criminals who deface our city, scam MUNI rides, or engage in crime. Instill a hot line to call in - or text in - maybe mobile phone pics - or any crime in the city.  This can be used for leads to catch criminals and deter future delinquent actions. Enforce the Laws
May 23rd, 2007 2:11 pm

Stop all the touchy-feely nonsense, and start enforcing the laws.  Put more money into the police force instead of "feel good" programs.  Arrest and prosecute criminals, and clean up the streets.  For the cost of living in San Francisco, it is outrageous that I have to walk over human feces on my way to work downtown, while trying to avoid psychotic homeless people demanding money. Police Profiling
May 21st, 2007 8:59 am

I cannot conceive the thought that the SFPD officers would considering profiling people.  The SFPD job is to protect our City from criminals. Police Officers only arrest people who are committing crimes and lots of time it might be the same person whos is getting arrest over and over again. Anyone can say that there is racial profiling going on in the police department.  The bottom line is to prove that it is actually occurring. Find out who  these people are that claiming that they are being racially profile from the police department? T Read This Posty »

SFPD actually doing their job
April 30th, 2007 3:26 pm

Here's an idea.. make sure the police actually do their job.  I just came from watching an all-out brawl at Hallidie Plaza/Powell Street BART/MUNI station.  I viewed this out of my apartment window which overlooks the plaza. I didn't call the police because I saw 2-3 BART police (or some other type of uniformed officer) come out of the BART station and watch the fighting.  I assumed they were just calling the police or for backup and waiting for them to arrive.  But they just stood there and did nothing.  Half an hour later, the police have finally arrived and Read This Posty »

HOUSING FOR POLICE and CRIME IN THE HOUSING PROJECTS
April 21st, 2007 3:54 pm

Newly hired police need inexpensive housing, especially in the city.  SF is landlord to a vast criminal element in the Projects. Without law and order in these areas, nothing else matters.  Give police officers free apartments in the projects and: 1. They will enhance community policing.  2.  They live in the city.  3. Crime will be prevented.  In Atlanta, landlords give law enforcement officers free apartments which keeps criminals at bay.  Try it! Name Withheld Read This Posty »
