Plant vines like Bougainvillea, Boston Ivy, etc. where there is a chronic graffiti problem. I have seen buildings that even after cleanup, cannot avoid graffiti vandalism for more than a couple of days. I think it could help.

Over the past three years I've been riding Muni every day to get to work, taking a local bus to muni rail to my office. I also frequently take other buses and lines to get about the city during the day.
Buses are frequently late or missing, many buses are damaged with scratched windows or painted graffiti, and I've filed complaints on the Muni website without receiving any acknowledgment or response. Buses are either packed during rush hours, or totally empty, riding though neighborhoods with no riders into the late hours of the night.
Here's a fresh idea: make Muni an outsourced, Read This Post »

A law aimed at the perpetrator, not the property owner/victim. Also, the law must have a strong enough sentence to matter, or there's no point bothering to try and enforce it. An estimate should be created for all costs pertaining to the apprehension including: painting over graffiti, police officers, judges, court reporters, secretaries, prosecuting attorneys pay and costs, etc., all jail costs including food, electricity, janitorial, etc. They should pay for everything - taxpayers shouldn't have to pick up the tab. If they're under 18, their parents should be held accountable. If they own a house or a car, their Read This Post »

Graffiti: Harsh penalties for people mess up public properties: Penalized 1 yr clean up on graffiti. Fine up to $1k Camera on back of bus.
MUNI: Las Vegas works like BART swipe card frt/bk of buses. No free rides. Penalties if caught. $500 City loses money.

I would like to suggest that you consider expanding the Southern boundary of the proposed new Community Court System beyond Harrison Street and to encompass all streets between Harrison and AT&T Park.
I will list for you the reasons why this new court system should encompass AT&T Park and the surrounding East SoMa neighborhood.
1. We are faced with several law breaking corner liquor stores selling to already inebriated patrons. We have repeatedly relayed our displeasure to them and the consequences to the neighborhood they make their living in, but our complaints fall on deaf ears.
2. The above mentioned inebriates use our Read This Post »

The City is doing OK in regards to public property, but the greatest problem lies with private property. The current process is as follows.
A call is received by DPW (now via 311) about the location and description of graffiti on private property.
An SR (Service Request) is generated and the SR number is communicated to the citizen who made the report and the SR is forwarded to DPW.
DPW sends someone out to the property to post an NOV (Notice of Violation) on the premises, a picture is taken of the graffiti and a copy of the NOV is also mailed Read This Post »

One way to help the complaints of slow public transit is to get rid of many of the bus stops. Buses make so many stops that it takes 35 to 40 minutes to get from Arguello Blvd to Downtown. Maybe you have not noticed, but a bus stops at almost every block, sometimes twice on the same block, at each end of the street. This is ridiculous!
Bus stops should be spaced at about every three blocks, like the limiteds, and at only one corner of that block. Make the limiteds stop at every 5th or 6th block. If you fear Read This Post »

Make the city & the city workers follow up on private properties that are cited & do not take care of the graffiti on their buildings or homes. I'm a volunteer for the city's anti-graffiti & I report buildings, complexes to 28-clean & months later the places still have graffiti. Why have this service if no one is making sure these businesses, whatever are actually taking care of their graffiti. PLEASE, get a group that is willing to get rid of this horrid mess on our city. I would appreciate a response from whomever to take this serious problem in Read This Post »

We all agree on two key issues, homelessness and desire to clean up our beautiful city. There must be some funds available for a city program that could give a minimum wage to the unemployed homeless person who would work in teams to clean up trash and cover graffiti. The program could have a name with dignity like San Francisco City Services, and participants could have a colored t shirt that recognized they are employed workers adding to the quality of our city life. This is an absolute win/win. As with any large city, plenty of funds are misspent, lets Read This Post »

Discontinue Critical Mass (Mess) on the last Friday of the month. They are thugs and don't respects the rights of other people that are in transit. The graffiti problem is getting worse in my neighborhood. There should be more be an underground task force to abate it.
Thank you for your concerns.

Dear Mr. Mayor:
While I support all the wonderful development deals, the biotech, the SOMA developments, etc. I can't help but feel the quality of life is deteriorating in many of our neighborhoods due to out of control graffiti and dumping of trash on the streets and sidewalks. I for one am tired of living in filth whenever I'm outside my home in the Mission.
I'm old enough to remember as time when peer pressure would work. A gentle reminder to someone throwing away a drink cup in a doorway was enough to get that person to stop, think, and dispose of Read This Post »

It's an age-old idea: folks who have damaged glass panes with acid etching should work to replace them. That is, they work for the company whose windows they ruined, but they don't get the money. Instead, the employer keeps that money to pay for replacement panes.
