This SOMA outreach program in the Chronicle is a GREAT idea. Daly and the others just don't get how disgusting our streets have become. Don't they ever walk around downtown??
I hope this plan goes through. This is a big win for San Francisco!

I was just in NYC and was amazed at how much cleaner their streets are than ours. As I'd walk down the street at 8am, the sidewalks had all been hosed down and seemed almost pristine. As opposed to Market Street in SF. I work at 3rd and Market, and the streets are disgustingly dirty. Obviously we have water issues they may not have, but the machines which "clean" our streets using no water do not do the trick. It really needs to be addressed as it adversely affects how one views our remarkable city.

In areas where homeless and transient people congregate, those new green paper bins should be removed. Example: The corner of 7th/Market (check cashing corner) there are two of these green bins. They are separated just enough for a man to stand in between them and urinate w/o being exposed. The urine cascades out in front of the BART/MUNI entry stairs. This happens every day. It smells terrible and tourist notice them doing it which makes our City look bad.

In response to your letter I would like to submit the following suggestions for improvements to make San Francisco better in the future. First I want to start with the problem the drug addicts and the homeless. According to my knowledge San Francisco have not enough treatment facilities to get people off drugs and for this reason I would suggest that the City of San Francisco and organizations working with this problem already open up an additional two or three treatment centers for people looking for help. The homeless people who are not addicted to drugs and get welfare money for Read This Posty »

Hello Mayor Newsom,
I am so glad that you have created this website! Have wanted to share ideas with you for a while. Just returned from 2 weeks in Europe and was impressed with some of the environmental things they do to conserve energy that would be great for our country and, of course, San Francisco is the city to lead the way...
1. Have lights for public areas set on motion sensors to conserve energy. This would be great for restaurants, stairwells in apartments, parking garages, bathrooms, office buildings, etc. Why do we need to have the lights on in empty office buildings Read This Posty »

Dear Gavin, One of the most spectacular urban spaces in the entire city, possibly in the entire country, is the vast open space in front of the Museum of Modern Art. Whoever planned that open space was a genius. My dream is to see the entire area from the opera house and vet's administration building all the way to Market street, replanned by the same designer. When someone creates something so glorious they should be rewarded with another assignment, and the civic center needs their attention. Such a project would crown your next administration in an unforgettable way. You have Read This Posty »

1. Institute a suit in Federal Court forcing the Board of Supervisors to realign districts on a realistic count of legal residents. I'm convinced that the current districts are, in many cases, drawn out of proportion to their actual population. South of Market is a good example. They have a vote, and so does the huge Sunset District. Doesn't compute, at least to me.
2. 11 Supervisors are too many for a 7 mile by 7 mile city. The reason we have so many is because 100 years ago, the county of San Francisco stretched all the way to San Francisquito Read This Posty »

Here's an idea.. make sure the police actually do their job. I just came from watching an all-out brawl at Hallidie Plaza/Powell Street BART/MUNI station. I viewed this out of my apartment window which overlooks the plaza.
I didn't call the police because I saw 2-3 BART police (or some other type of uniformed officer) come out of the BART station and watch the fighting. I assumed they were just calling the police or for backup and waiting for them to arrive. But they just stood there and did nothing.
Half an hour later, the police have finally arrived and Read This Posty »

In an area close to the cable car turnaround at Aquatic Park, a tourist center similar to the one at Powell and Market, would enable people at the wharf to have access to information relating to all the amenities o the city. I have photographed 40 of the different neighberhoods in SF and to have a display of these would enable the tourists and the local to see some of these that they normally would not have time to see or were not aware.

How about instead of a subway, we have a gondola system like they do at the ski resorts. It could go from Pier 39 all they way to Market, stopping anywhere in between. Instead of wasting money digging tunnels, all that would be necessary would be large Chair lift type of poles that would support the cables in the air. Plus SF folks are used to tons of wires and cables above their streets anyways.
Think of the benefits. First off you would be creating a tourist attraction, creating needed revenue for the city, and offering above the street views. The Read This Posty »

Dear Mr. Mayor,
I want to tell you what a fine job you are doing and I applaud your efforts in managing this city. Thank you. I do have some suggestions for beautifying the city and managing its growth.
BUSINESS LOOP
I applaud the redevelopment of South of Market and the beautiful skyscrapers rising in our downtown area. One idea to help manage the traffic flow of the downtown area is to create a business zone loop. That would mean creating one way boulevards that are open to cars, buses and bicycles. Here are some suggestions:

I work on 2nd street South of Market. I would like a non-emergeny # to dial to have a team come pick up drunk or disturbing members of our neighborhood. This is a primary route to AT&T park- it is embarassing for all who are visiting SF to have to walk on or over some of our local friends! How about a help line # for a quick pick up or intervention team!

Study what NYC did in the 90's to completely turn around that city's homeless situation.
If you can't fix the problem, please resign and let someone who can have the job. If this isn't your #1 priority, it should be. By far.
