Please require MUNI drivers to call Security when passengers display unruly behavior, enabling Security personnel to remove them from the trains. (no criminal charges needed, just removal) Without this requirement, riding MUNI can be unpleasant, even frightening and surely prevents many people from taking public transportation.

The F Line does not serve the local residents along the Embarcadero on weekends -- Once it loads up at Fisherman's Wharf it simply zooms right by all the people along the route.
Why doesn't the driver allow the car to fill up only half way before departing the Wharf, leaving some room for the poor jerks along the way who depend on this mode of transportation to have a chance to catch a ride? Simple solution, no? I phoned the Muni, and was told "it would cost too much"!

Problem: Not enough city revenues.
Solution: Implement a city and commuter tax, akin to NYC. that way, renters and commuters will pay into the city, and the city will have a steady stream of income without having to continually raise fees that adversely affects quality of life (ie. parking fines, filing fees for superior ct, muni fares, etc.).
Problem: Not enough money to implement bike lanes, etc.
Solution: Every bike owner pays registration fee annually. Money garnered will go towards making safer bike lanes. Also, enforce traffic violations of bikes as well with red light cameras. Bikes could be tracked if they Read This Posty »

Well for over 12 years now I have been taking the 2819th Avenue Bus from the Sunset district out to Ghirardelli Square. This is the bus that goes to the lookout point right at the bridge where the gift shop and snack shop are located. on a regular basis. With all the tourists visiting our city they of course flock to the bridge and then need directions to get to various points of interest within San Francisco. Everyday there are literally lines of tourists especially during the Summer months who automatically get on any bus which stops at that point, Read This Posty »

1. From time to time there is a safety problem on Muni buses - rowdy kids; a drunk that won't get off; etc. There should be an alarm that the driver could activate to call police in the vicinity. Maybe the problem passengers would get off before the police arrived. OK.
2. If not already done, there should be anger management classes for the bus drivers - relative to both passengers and to the drivers. Have seen both lose it in the past month.
3. More difficult - should adopt the London concept of a transit pass that scans as Read This Posty »

I doubt I am alone in feeling that MUNI is the aspect of city government that most effects my day-to-day life. I just read in the San Francisco Examiner that 16.8% of MUNI drivers are absent from work on any given day, and that that shortfall is made up by other drivers being paid overtime. This seems like an extraordinarily number to me, which must have a highly negative impact on MUNIs budget and the ability of buses to run on time (which is really what matters most to me). I think any effort to improve MUNI should start here...with Read This Posty »

This is not a sexy solution to the difficulties of riding MUNI with children, but it is inexpensive and important: emphasize drivers' need to wait for mothers and young children to be seated before speeding off! Alternately, reserve the front section of the bus for pregnant women and young children along with seniors and handicapped passengers. A third, more difficult, proposal is to create a section in the rear of the bus where parents can keep their strollers open rather than folding them up. These solutions are practical and green, and would make a huge difference in MUNI's accessibility.

This is a wonderful idea. How about bringing this to San Francisco. And even better, apply it to MUNI drivers especially.
Red-Light Fines To Go To Police
18:00 4/12/2007, Techgage News
Starting Sunday, any Dallas police officer in a marked squad car who is captured on the city's cameras running a red light will have to pay the $75 fine if the incident doesn't comply with state law. Firefighters who run red lights will have to pay if they're not on an emergency run.
This is fantastic. Even in my small town, I've seen officers run red lights unnecessarily. Some of the police on Read This Posty »
