Behavior on MUNI Trains
December 17th, 2007 10:28 am

Please require MUNI drivers to call Security when passengers display unruly behavior, enabling Security personnel to remove them from the trains.  (no criminal charges needed, just removal)  Without this requirement, riding MUNI can be unpleasant, even frightening and surely prevents many people from taking public transportation. Increase Bus Fares, Decrease Monthly Pass
December 4th, 2007 10:46 am

Current pricing for monthly bus pass is $45 and current one-time use of bus is $1.50.  Let's decrease the monthly pass to $25, but increase the one-time use fee to $2.00.  This will, I think, get the people who just get on the bus without paying, to pay for the lower one time fee.  This will also increase revenues from tourists.  Note that no public transit system is as efficient as Japan's, bu they pay about double or more what we pay.  For instance: A bus ride is based on how far you go, so 50 min bus ride may Read This Posty »

Residents First
September 26th, 2007 10:34 am

Here's an idea you'll never use:  Focus on San Francisco residents before tourists.  Start with the cable car lines.  Why is it that if I want to take a cable car from Powell/Market to say North Beach to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend, I have to wait in an unreasonable cable car line full of people who only desire to ride it all the way to the end?  Allow people with monthly fast passes to skip the line.  There are so few of them relative to the tourists in line that the affect on tourist wait times will Read This Posty »

Fix Muni
September 26th, 2007 10:32 am

Mr. Newsom, please take on Muni. Clean house. I understand your powers are limited in that area, but the city needs leadership on this issue. and i fear that only your office can provide it. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

De-Unionize MUNI
September 25th, 2007 8:26 am

Fix MUNI.  I'm so sick of this same complaint.  The biggest problem is that it's unionized.  Dissolve the whole damn thing and start from scratch without a union, and competant people managing it or let a private company do it.  End the days of MUNI hiring any idiot, make race IRRELEVENT in the hiring process and place emphasis on competance and ability and who's best for the job, then hold people ACCOUNTABLE (i.e. fire bad employees!).  Come to think of it, the entire city could benefit from this outlook. MUNI F Line
September 25th, 2007 8:24 am

The F Line does not serve the local residents along the Embarcadero on weekends -- Once it loads up at Fisherman's Wharf it simply zooms right by all the people along the route.  Why doesn't the driver allow the car to fill up only half way before departing the Wharf, leaving some room for the poor jerks along the way who depend on this mode of transportation to have a chance to catch a ride?  Simple solution, no?  I phoned the Muni, and was told "it would cost too much"!  Marilyn Breen Read This Posty »

Muni bus time/location should be displayed on the web
September 21st, 2007 8:56 am

1) All Muni bus time/location should be displayed on the web, by the bus-stop, or even in the near-by stores. This will be really warm feels to riders because it's not the matter how long it waits, it's matter when the bus comes. 2) Gun purchase should be a 24-hours, year round program because a person having a short temper to shoot would have a short waiting for money, too. Bottom line, a safer city. Kin Sit Read This Posty »

Get Students Involved
September 21st, 2007 8:51 am

I saw the article in today's SF Chronicle (9/20/7) about MUNI not collecting ridership and transit time data. Why not get some town-gown partnerships going?  It would be simple and inexpensive to contact public policy, political science and transportation programs at local colleges and universities--SF state, USF and UC Berkeley, for example--there would be senior undergraduate and master's students who'd benefit as interns exercising their research and data collection skills on behalf of the community, and who could assist in preparing reports.  This would also be a way to introduce these students to possible careers working for the City-County of Read This Posty »

Make Muni an outsourced, self-funding service
September 18th, 2007 10:50 am

Over the past three years I've been riding Muni every day to get to work, taking a local bus to muni rail to my office.  I also frequently take other buses and lines to get about the city during the day. Buses are frequently late or missing, many buses are damaged with scratched windows or painted graffiti, and I've filed complaints on the Muni website without receiving any acknowledgment or response.  Buses are either packed during rush hours, or totally empty, riding though neighborhoods with no riders into the late hours of the night. Here's a fresh idea: make Muni an outsourced, Read This Posty »

MUNI Stops
August 5th, 2007 2:58 pm

We should move, cautiously, toward eliminating some MUNI stops. I'm out here near 19th Avenue & Judah. There are stops at Judah & 12th Avenue and one block away at Judah & Funston. This never made sense to me. Perhaps we can start with this one. I know it's just one, but we could use all the good karma we can get. Michael Jawitz Read This Posty »

MUNI Schedulers
August 2nd, 2007 1:09 am

Design opportunities for young designers
July 25th, 2007 9:28 am

There should be an effort to encourage young designers to help improve certain areas of our city. There are many examples of places and things that an investment in good design could really improve, or make work better. The temporary police barriers on the Embarcadero near the ballpark separating the MUNI tracks and Hallidie Plaza are two examples of design opportunities. Just having a well-designed, beautiful solution, however, would be missing the opportunity to encourage young and talented designers in San Francisco to participate in the effort. There should be more design Read This Posty »

Geneva Ave. for the 49ers
July 25th, 2007 9:27 am

There is a tremendous amount of open land at the end of Geneva Ave. to the east. I have heard that the land is owned by the railroad. If this is true why not work with them to build the stadium there? It is close to the freeway. The new 3rd street Muni Metro line stops close by, and a Caltrain station is also close by. You could even work a historical rail theme into the stadium by including a railroad museum. Currently the land appears to only contain a couple of old dilapidated buildings some unused rail, and tons Read This Posty »

2 MUNI Trains at Underground Platforms
July 23rd, 2007 9:20 am

Underground MUNI platforms are easily long enough to accommodate two dual-car trains- why not use them? It would double speed for loading & unloading- and would help alleviate the situation of the driver going "offline" to pull into a station when another train is stuck in the "loading position." Bike Fee and New MUNI contract
July 23rd, 2007 9:18 am

Problem:  Not enough city revenues. Solution: Implement a city and commuter tax, akin to NYC. that way, renters and commuters will pay into the city, and the city will have a steady stream of income without having to continually raise fees that adversely affects quality of life (ie. parking fines, filing fees for superior ct, muni fares, etc.). Problem:  Not enough money to implement bike lanes, etc. Solution:  Every bike owner pays registration fee annually. Money garnered will go towards making safer bike lanes. Also, enforce traffic violations of bikes as well with red light cameras. Bikes could be tracked if they Read This Posty »

MUNI Stops
July 5th, 2007 9:06 am

I believe the idea of eliminating some of the Muni Transit stops on certain routes is a great idea! I've read all of the negative points brought up i.e.: the elderly walking too far, people coming home from work at night, and so on. It has to come down to some rough justice, and what's best for the masses. Sure, each negative response is basically legitimate, but we need the system to work and some will just have to suck it up. Welcome to 2007. Thanks for your hard work in trying to make the Read This Posty »

MUNI at Powell
July 3rd, 2007 8:10 am

My son was riding Bart going to the Powell station. He got off Bart and was trying to find the street level. He took the Elevator and ended up on the Muni level. He didn't get out of the elevator until the Muni officer told him to. He was then cited for trying to sneak on to Muni. I think there needs to be a sign that states No access to street level or some kind of system that informs people in case they are lost. I have a friend that did the same thing only he wasn't cited. Please put a bus shelter at the corner of Industrial and Bayshore (24 bus)
June 22nd, 2007 12:01 pm

There is a preschool that has been there for 32 years and parents and kids have to wait out in the rain, wind etc. for the bus.  Also, put pedestrian signs and paint the road at the end of Loomis and Industrial next to Big City Montessori to facilitate the little ones getting across the street safely.
