The problem is that hard working citizens of San Francisco, when they arrive home after a days work, cannot even park in their own driveway to unload groceries for their children. The solution is to change the ordinance so that a parking ticket is only issued if the sidewalk is actually blocked so as to prevent pedestrians from passing. Another solution would be to have fewer meter maids and more SFPD officers, so that some of the actual, serious crimes that face us, like car theft, can be dealt with, rather than spending all of our enforcement efforts on punishing Read This Posty »

Everyone knows that motorcycles and scooters provide San Franciscans with a transportation option with a fraction of the traffic, parking, and carbon emissions footprint of a car. In other words, the city could sustain 4-6 times the number of commuters, shoppers, and parkers if they were on two wheels instead of four.
To maximize their inherent win-win advantages, the City should actively promote the usage of two-wheeled transport. One of the easiest ways to do so is to paint a small motorcycle symbol on every red curb that is too small for a car, but could easily accommodate a scooter.

Take a ride on the street sweepers in each neighborhood. Notice how most streets can not be cleaned because of parked cars in violation of posted street sweeping times. Then ask yourself why none of those cars are ticketed? And then ask yourself why the DPW is experiencing a budget shortfall. Street cleaning is the only effort we have to make any improvement in the litter strewn make-up of this city and the street sweepers can NOT get to the litter if cars are parked in violation and those cars park in violation, because they are not ticketed.

Start enforcing the law. Issue citations for double parking and push the judges not to waive the fines. Pass a law that doubles fines for a driver who double parks next to an empty loading zone (which they do all the time).

Parking fine fees have been increased to help off-set MUNI budget shortages. Why not increase moving violation fees to help increase traffic and, more importantly, pedestrian safety. As Susan Leal once said, "it is anarchy on our streets." And the situation has only gotten worse since her stance led to an increase in the number of traffic cameras. Although never happy about advocating for anything Big-Brother like, if drivers (and motorcyclists and bikers) will not comport themselves in a safe and lega manner, then the City has an obligation to intervene. Higher fines, more traffic cameras, increase police presence, and Read This Posty »

Right now DPT wastes a ton of time chalking tires for 2hr parking enforcement. Why can't we mandate the use of parking discs as in Europe? When you park you mark the time you arrived and it displays when you expire on the disc. That was the parking enforcement officers only have to make a single pass, which should allow more time to enforce more neighborhoods.

Stop allowing gas hogging SUVs from parking in city ramps in "Compact Only" stalls. They should get a huge ticket. On the plus side that would help our budget - fix the potholes these monster vehicles create.

As more people purchase from online retail, more delivery trucks will clog our streets making it impossible for traffic to flow normally. Road rage will surely follow and so will horn blowing. I suggest that truck owners be fined heavily if they don't pull into the available "deliveries only" parking spaces...and that they're license be suspended until they pay their fines. The worst offenders are FEDX and UPS but certainly the delivery trucks along the commercial areas like 16th St - Mission Street etc.

One thing that makes this city feel hostile and unfriendly to motorcyclists is the arbitrary enforcement of sidewalk parking rules. A non-enforcement policy most of the time, that is suddenly acted upon on one street, but not the next, to the tune of $100 feels very unjust. Also, with street parking at a premium, a safely parked motorcycle on a wide sidewalk saves badly needed room for cars, and protects the motorcycle from damage. I suggest rules be adopted to allow for very specific types of sidewalk parking, in very specific places. failing that, I suggest a warning system. vehicles Read This Posty »

San Franciscoís tourists are a significant part of our economy. We are proud of San Francisco and most San Franciscan's love showing off their city. To lock in San Francisco as one of the best tourist destinations in the world we could easily create a citizen-led tourist guide service. If managed carefully, this concept would cost the city absolutely nothing.
The concept is simple. The city uses viral and other free channels including sfconnect.org to advertise the concept of volunteer guides. We attract citizens who have detailed insight regarding the various neighborhoods of San Francisco. To be ìapprovedî as a volunteer Read This Posty »

The city should buy up some empty lots and build city owned and operated parking garages. It would create a lot more revenue with less man hours than parking tickets and parking meters. The urban planning of SF leaves much to be desired.
