Smaller Car Incentives
December 17th, 2007 2:44 pm

I want to contribute ideas to Mayor Newsom.    First of I think he's doing a great job with cutting edge ideas and newsworthy initiatives.  I like the idea that he made SF into a city of tolerance by welcoming gay marriage.  Although it did not bode well nationally, it helps make SF the most tolerant city in the US and achieve much more internationally.     Lately, the energy crisis and global warming have been dogging the economy as well as cause concern for many people.  The biggest challenge we have is that everyone in the US wants to have bigger cars, Read This Posty »

Green ideas from Florida
November 8th, 2007 3:36 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom, My name is Jared Moskowitz and I am the Vice Mayor of the city of Parkland in South Florida. I wanted to share this environmental program that I am proposing to the city commission. I have attached an article below explaining the program. It would be great to have your thoughts as you are a leader in the environmental arena. I think you will find the idea of returning tax dollars in exchange for participation in environmental programs innovative. Sincerely, Jared Moskowitz ----- Parkland plan gives residents incentives for going green By Lisa J. Huriash |South Florida Sun-Sentinel PARKLAND - Residents could soon Read This Posty »

Driveway parking solution
October 25th, 2007 2:29 pm

The problem is that hard working citizens of San Francisco, when they arrive home after a days work, cannot even park in their own driveway to unload groceries for their children.  The solution is to change the ordinance so that a parking ticket is only issued if the sidewalk is actually blocked so as to prevent pedestrians from passing.  Another solution would be to have fewer meter maids and more SFPD officers, so that some of the actual, serious crimes that face us, like car theft, can be dealt with, rather than spending all of our enforcement efforts on punishing Read This Posty »

Write the Month Out on Parking Permits
October 5th, 2007 10:09 am

When you issue those "no parking" signs for construction on residential streets 0 the ones that last for weeks or months, a great idea would be to write the month out, instead of a number. Like 2/12/07 would be Oct. 12, 07. So many people take a marker and change 2 to 12 or 7 to 17 and get another few months or ten days out of their permit. And do we take the risk and park there? Writing out Oct Twelve, 2007 would stop builders and home owners from taking up more spots after their permit time is legally Read This Posty »

Contemporary Art Museum in our southeastern quadrant
September 21st, 2007 8:45 am

The sleepy southeast quadrant of San Francisco is buzzing with activity  first came the Ballpark, then the new UC Medical Center and all the accompanying activity at Mission Bay and soon, perhaps, a new football stadium and thousands of new homes at Hunters Point. We just spent a day at the Tate Modern in London. The revitalization of the Thames' south bank is largely due to the visionaries who placed the Tate Modern there. Think of the effect of having the Donald Fisher's Contemporary Art Museum located on our southeast bay shore near Pier 70/Potrero Point! The T-Third provides public transit access Read This Posty »

A New Type of Public Transit
September 20th, 2007 12:35 pm

Last night while I was watching the evening news, I was made aware of the congestion problems your city is having. Then few ideas came up in my mind that could lighten up the load. My first idea, How about a new type of public transit just for the most congested areas of your city? My idea was based from the city of Hong Kong; they have a type of public transit which is like a mini bus, which services every part of the city. These mini bus benefits over buses because they are Read This Posty »

SF Jury Duty
September 4th, 2007 11:25 am

The Hall of Justice jury room is a depressing place akin to the DMV & Unemployment office. Its a cattle call & needs to be changed. Many tax paying San Franciscans who are called to serve who are self employed & will lose money & receive no parking are making enough of a sacrifice. They should be treated with respect by employees & the environment. The Smart solution is to have smaller rooms that are comfortable, cheery & the employees should treat prospective Jury duty people with utmost respect. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Alternate side parking for street cleaning
August 29th, 2007 9:25 am

Poll citizens to obtain average hour of departure for work. Raise base DPT parking time to start no earlier than average. For example, my street bans parking from 6am to 8am; typically, I leave for work at 8:00am. Set street cleaning start times no earlier than, e.g., 8am (or whatever the average departure time is for citizens). Joan Carter Read This Posty »

Traffic Infractions
August 8th, 2007 3:03 pm

Why not deputize some new officers strictly for traffic enforcement and have them routinely patrol different areas for pesky traffic infractions, e.g., sidewalk parking, driveways, over-the-curb parking, etc. I guess they couldn't stop autos for moving violations, but it sure would be nice to see more of that kind of enforcement. The city coffers would be overflowing (and probably cover the cost plus some). Not a day goes by that someone doesn't try to run me over, either running a red light, or not stopping at a turn when I'm ready to cross. (I have to pay Read This Posty »

Traffic Congestion
August 6th, 2007 3:01 pm

Better enforcement of "no parking" in Pine Street and Bush Street traffic lanes and ticketing double parkers in neighborhood and Downtown commercial areas. Traffic to and from Downtown from the Western areas of SF can be dramatically improved if double parking during rush hour is eliminated and if people do not park in traffic lanes before the allowed time. For example, on Pine Street outbound, parking is not allowed until 7 pm. People regularly begin parking in the traffic lanes just after 6 pm because they know that the zones are not enforced. Traffic backs up as a result. Read This Posty »

Paint a motorcycle symbol on the red curb
July 23rd, 2007 9:16 am

Gavin< Everyone knows that motorcycles and scooters provide San Franciscans with a transportation option with a fraction of the traffic, parking, and carbon emissions footprint of a car.  In other words, the city could sustain 4-6 times the number of commuters, shoppers, and parkers if they were on two wheels instead of four. To maximize their inherent win-win advantages, the City should actively promote the usage of two-wheeled transport.  One of the easiest ways to do so is to paint a small motorcycle symbol on every red curb that is too small for a car, but could easily accommodate a scooter.  All Read This Posty »

Clean Streets
June 18th, 2007 8:52 am

Take a ride on the street sweepers in each neighborhood. Notice how most streets can not be cleaned because of parked cars in violation of posted street sweeping times. Then ask yourself why none of those cars are ticketed?  And then ask yourself why the DPW is experiencing a budget shortfall.  Street cleaning is the only effort we have to make any improvement in the litter strewn make-up of this city and the street sweepers can NOT get to the litter if cars are parked in violation and those cars park in violation, because they are not ticketed. Positive Ideas for San Francisco
June 4th, 2007 1:48 pm

Hello Mayor Newsom, I am so glad that you have created this website!  Have wanted to share ideas with you for a while. Just returned from 2 weeks in Europe and was impressed with some of the environmental things they do to conserve energy that would be great for our country and, of course, San Francisco is the city to lead the way... 1.  Have lights for public areas set on motion sensors to conserve energy. This would be great for restaurants, stairwells in apartments, parking garages, bathrooms, office buildings, etc. Why do we need to have the lights on in empty office buildings Read This Posty »

Double Parking
June 4th, 2007 10:01 am

Start enforcing the law.  Issue citations for double parking and push the judges not to waive the fines.  Pass a law that doubles fines for a driver who double parks next to an empty loading zone (which they do all the time). Name Withheld Read This Posty »

MTA Parking Meter Card Distribution
June 1st, 2007 9:27 am

MTA cards for meters. Get better distribution for them. Add an order form in parking tickets, with the courtesy notices, sell them at the courtroom, and other typical points of contact. The cards are great, and I am much more confident. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

MUNI & DPT
June 1st, 2007 8:56 am

MUNI: exhibit some political will to make a small change which will result in a huge improvement to MUNI bus service -- eliminate the "one stop for every block" concept in favor of having bus stops on every other block.  Bus service will be dramatically sped up, making it a more attractive prospect for commuters.  As a side benefit, hundreds, and potentially thousands of parking spaces (with associated revenue) will open up, too. DPT:  (parking div)  This City department is a nightmare tax division for many residents.  Badly-trained, and often belligerent, ticket-writers perform their tasks with impunity.  When they make mistakes Read This Posty »

Traffic & Road Rage
June 1st, 2007 8:46 am

Ban left hand turns from Divisadero and Van Vess unless there is a turn lane ... would speed traffic and keep people from getting VERY annoyed ___ Decrease the labor intensive work of getting quarters in meters and ticket double parkers ... in any given day (try saturday) hit the shopping area of chestnut street, the presidio heights and fillmore st... suv's doubleparked and empty while cel phone yakkers get a double latte at starbucks ... not only would this bring is A LOT of revenue, it would also decrease road rage ... and enable buses to get by. Traffic Safety
May 28th, 2007 2:49 pm

Parking fine fees have been increased to help off-set MUNI budget shortages. Why not increase moving violation fees to help increase traffic and, more importantly, pedestrian safety. As Susan Leal once said, "it is anarchy on our streets." And the situation has only gotten worse since her stance led to an increase in the number of traffic cameras. Although never happy about advocating for anything Big-Brother like, if drivers (and motorcyclists and bikers) will not comport themselves in a safe and lega manner, then the City has an obligation to intervene. Higher fines, more traffic cameras, increase police presence, and Read This Posty »

Parking Permits
May 21st, 2007 8:26 am

Parking permits are much too cheap.  Each household or small business should get one at a low price, say $100/yr.  Each permit for the same address should be much more expensive, say $500/yr. This would reduce the glut of cars in our neighborhoods by making people pay a more realistic price for the public land they use. Rob Bregoff Read This Posty »
