One thing that makes this city feel hostile and unfriendly to motorcyclists is the arbitrary enforcement of sidewalk parking rules. A non-enforcement policy most of the time, that is suddenly acted upon on one street, but not the next, to the tune of $100 feels very unjust. Also, with street parking at a premium, a safely parked motorcycle on a wide sidewalk saves badly needed room for cars, and protects the motorcycle from damage. I suggest rules be adopted to allow for very specific types of sidewalk parking, in very specific places. failing that, I suggest a warning system. vehicles Read This Posty »

I have one and really need it because I am unable to walk very far and carry around an oxygen tank. I always see folks park in the blue zones who certainly don't look or act like they are disabled. Would be nice to be able to call a special number for a meter maid to check this out. I ended up buying a truck with commercial plates just for the parking.

1) I complain about the rude drivers in the city who run stop signs and don't care if you're in the cross walk or not. I don't know how to fix this except to perhaps have enforcement campaigns work certain areas of the city. I jog through the city streets and every single time I encounter a careless driver who makes me fear for my safety. Also, the heavy traffic is really frustrating, but I don't know what to suggest about that.
2) Parking is obviously a problem in this city, which leads to double parking which is another problem. Read This Posty »

Healthy food happy minds. We need Trader Joes in Eureka Valley/Castro. Empty buildings bring a look of decay to a business district. As a neighbor of Tower I saw that they accommodated customers parking and so can Trader Joes. Have a lovely day.

I recently moved to a new apartment. At my old house, I parked in a spot I paid for, but in my new place, I had to park on the street. It's hard enough trying to find parking in SF, but if you don't have a parking sticker, finding a street with no sticker requirement AND no street sweeping the following morning is nearly impossible.
So I went to the the DPT, paperwork filled out, money in hand (after spending all day at the DMV because the DPT told me to make sure my address was current on my registration) ready Read This Posty »

Paint and label a few lines on the street as spaces for compact cars at each corner. You could fit a couple extra cars per block.

I propose the city of San Francisco designate another bus line to and from the Marina, something similar to the 45, while avoiding the congestion of traveling through China Town. There is a desperate need for additional transportation throughout the Marina especially during peak commuter times.
Secondly, I suggest finding some way to increase parking availability in residential areas. All too often there seems to be an excess of parking meters and unnecessary no parking zones, when the space would be more beneficial and more accommodating for drivers, if they were allowed to park for at least two hours without having Read This Posty »

IN WEST HOLLYWOOD THEY ENFORCE 24 HOUR PARKING PERMITS. I THINK THEY SHOULD DO THIS ON THE RESIDENTIAL STREETS OF THE CASTRO TO ENCOURAGE OUT OF STATE PEOPLE TO REGISTER AND PERMIT THEIR CARS. THERE ARE THREE OUT OF STATE VEHICLES THAT PARK IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE EVERY EVENING. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY CALIFORNIA REGISTRATION FEES AND THEY DON'T???

The reason people use handicapped permits illegally is that they want to park free or longer than the meters permit.
There is no reason anyone should park free. Handicapped people can get to the meter like anyone else and it's only fair that they pay too.
To provide them longer parking periods meters could be changed to have a card reader slot that handicapped people could use and it would allow the meter to extend parking time say up to up to 4 hours but it must be paid for.
This should increase revenues greatly and dispose of the scoflaws.

The transition from Oak Street to Octavia is a nightmare! It's crowded, inefficient and dangerous because everyone tries to get into one lane to turn. The parking on the righthand lane makes this a one lane turn that needs to be two. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change it so that the middle lane becomes an additional right turn lane. Leave the parking lane alone--we all know how valuable parking is--but make another lane available for turning so we can all get to the freeway safely.

The Bernal Heights Alemany Farmer's Market should be expanded by prohibiting cars in between the stalls. Instead, more foods and crafts could be offered, with a stage for children's shows, while their parents shop. Currently, cars run down the middle of the market, congesting and polluting the ambience and present a danger for pedestrians. This is a people's market and deserves some attention. Could the City please provide some parking nearby, or perhaps a traffic cop or two???

Since most busses do not run 24 hours, how about allowing parking at the bus stops during hours the busses do not run. Post the hours at the bus stops. If this privilage is abused no one is to lose, since the 90% of the busses do not pull in to the bus stops, plus the penalty for parking at the bus stop is an incredible revenue source for the city.

The city should buy up some empty lots and build city owned and operated parking garages. It would create a lot more revenue with less man hours than parking tickets and parking meters. The urban planning of SF leaves much to be desired.

Could we PLEASE have parking spaces painted on residential streets? So many streets are clogged with cars that take up 2 spaces. If we had clearly delienated spaces, then cars could be parked more efficiently. Please consider this.

Many streets in San Francisco only have parking on one side. On street-cleaning days, the whole street is virtually empty. Allow parking on the opposite side of the street during cleaning.

SF should set a limit on the number handicap parking permits allowed to city residents.

Free Parking? I feel it should be mandtory that city employees walk or take MUNI. Sure - there may be exceptions - but if the system is not right for public employees - then why would anyone else want to ride it. To not mandate MUNI use AND to provide free parking is insulting to MUNI and undermines the goals of public transportation.
Make the system good enough so everywant WANTS to ride it.

1. Let's get rid of bus zone. Muni NEVER pulls into them and we could get 3 to 4 more spots in those blocks.
2. Add local parking structures in residental neigborhoods. Like in the Marina. Make them for the residents in the hood and give them first chance at a monthly pass. There has been an empty lot on my corner for over 12 years, It just started construction. But the city could have take it over and used it for the residents. Let's make the city user friendly, not unfriedly. Thanks
