Cut down on the number of stops from every block and/or every other block...to maybe 3 or 4 blocks to reduce delays. Ann Stovel Read This Posty »

To many bus stops, makes the bus go slow
April 25th, 2007 10:49 am

One way to help the complaints of slow public transit is to get rid of many of the bus stops. Buses make so many stops that it takes 35 to 40 minutes to get from Arguello Blvd to Downtown. Maybe you have not noticed, but a bus stops at almost every block, sometimes twice on the same block, at each end of the street. This is ridiculous!   Bus stops should be spaced at about every three blocks, like the limiteds, and at only one corner of that block. Make the limiteds stop at every 5th or 6th block. If you fear Read This Posty »

Traffic & Public Transportation
April 25th, 2007 9:06 am

Why is SF lagging behind London and NYC? Aren't we supposed to be the most progressive city - particularly when it comes to environmental measures. SF needs to get on board with these other cities and charge drivers a congestion tax for driving downtown. This would make the city cleaner, easier to get around, and a hell of a lot more environmentally friendly. The revenue, of course, would need to go toward expanding and improving the quality of the city's public transit options. I guarantee there'd be far fewer cars downtown if, for example, BART extended further down the Peninsula Read This Posty »

Fine Drivers that Stop in Crosswalks
April 23rd, 2007 9:47 pm

1. Raise money by issuing tickets to commuters who instead of stopping before red lights, stop after the lights on the pedestrian crosswalks. Worst offenders are found on the corner of Folsom and Fremont after 5PM. Pull the ones on the sidewalk aside and issue $100 tickets. Easy money and you save the lives of pedestrians who have to dodge traffic because their cross walks have cars on them. 2. For the last year I've seen broken glass  from people breaking into cars all along Folsom street especially before and after 2nd street. Why isn't the police preventing this? Why don't Read This Posty »

Please fix Muni
April 22nd, 2007 9:09 pm

The following are my recommendations: 1. Vending Machines in every underground station w/monthly passes and tokens 2. Stop Bus Stacking -- I have often waiting 20+ minutes for the 6 or the 71 bus.  When one final arrives it is followed by one to two other 6s or 71s buses.  This is common complaint of the F line as well. 3. No school rides during peak hours.  It's great that SF kids are using transit for school trips, but do they need to go during the peak rush hour?  It is impossible to get on the N and breath the mornings that they Read This Posty »

Mass Transit Solution
April 20th, 2007 1:58 pm

To connect Marin county with the end of cal train in SF - create a new mass transit system -- which utilizes pre-existing roadways and is built on an elevated BART-like track right down the center median (and sometimes on the sides when necessary) and utilizing the pre-existing passageway that leads under the golden gate bridges' roadbed leading into Marin county (the GG bridge designer had a futuristic vision and saw mass transit in the bridges' future, so the potential excess weight tolerances are likely built-in)... Make MUNI family friendly
April 19th, 2007 11:14 am

Change the MUNI rules/signs for elderly and disabled seating to include adults carrying children.  They offer this seating preference in London on the Tube.  This would help make San Francisco and MUNI a little more kid (and parent) friendly. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

MUNI
April 19th, 2007 9:21 am

This is not a sexy solution to the difficulties of riding MUNI with children, but it is inexpensive and important:  emphasize drivers' need to wait for mothers and young children to be seated before speeding off!  Alternately, reserve the front section of the bus for pregnant women and young children along with seniors and handicapped passengers. A third, more difficult, proposal is to create a section in the rear of the bus where parents can keep their strollers open rather than folding them up.  These solutions are practical and green, and would make a huge difference in MUNI's accessibility. Muni Metro
April 19th, 2007 9:05 am

There are an unacceptable number of delays on the Metro. On Metro lines from Caltrain (formerly N, now T and J), trains have to wait for as much as 10+ minutes to enter the tunnel between Folsom and Embarcadero, and then often stop multiple times in the tunnel before reaching Embarcadero station. The situation is similar for the J and N entering the tunnel at Church St. Separately, passengers waiting for a given line may wait for 25+ minutes while multiple trains for every other line pass. This is because trains on a single line (e.g., N Judah) bunch up, Read This Posty »

Buses to the Marina and Parking Availibility
April 19th, 2007 8:37 am

I propose the city of San Francisco designate another bus line to and from the Marina, something similar to the 45, while avoiding the congestion of traveling through China Town.  There is a desperate need for additional transportation throughout the Marina especially during peak commuter times. Secondly, I suggest finding some way to increase parking availability in residential areas.  All too often there seems to be an excess of parking meters and unnecessary no parking zones, when the space would be more beneficial and more accommodating for drivers, if they were allowed to park for at least two hours without having Read This Posty »

Send the homless to Sacramento
April 18th, 2007 4:15 pm

1) I think a tax break or a gift or discounted fast-passes should be given to people that take MUNI. When I walk down Columbus in the morning everyday to work, 97% of all the cars have solo drivers (on cell phones, honking). 2) I know this sounds heartless, but, why not send the homeless to the Capitol?  Maybe that would open their eyes to the growing problem. Beautifying the City and Managing its Growth
April 18th, 2007 10:59 am

Dear Mr. Mayor, I want to tell you what a fine job you are doing and I applaud your efforts in managing this city. Thank you.  I do have some suggestions for beautifying the city and managing its growth. BUSINESS LOOP I applaud the redevelopment of South of Market and the beautiful skyscrapers rising in our downtown area. One idea to help manage the traffic flow of the downtown area is to create a business zone loop. That would mean creating one way boulevards that are open to cars, buses and bicycles. Here are some suggestions: Create a business Read This Posty »

Muni #15 (9X)
April 18th, 2007 10:26 am

Muni killed the 15 and replaced it with the 9X due to changes on the 3rd street corridor.  The problem is that the 9X doesn't pass through FIDA / SOMA as the 15 used to do.  Now it is particularly difficult for people who live in Russian Hill, North Beach, or Telegraph to get to and from Downtown.  These are vital residential neighborhoods that ought to have at least 1 option for getting downtown via public transit.  Does Stockton / Chinatown really need a 3rd bus line at the expense of everyone else?  It simply doesn't make sense.  Why don't Read This Posty »

Muni
April 18th, 2007 10:20 am

Not a solution but a cry for HELP. BUSES-why no "low to the curb" buses-easy for handicapped, seniors, strollers, small children. Why are the buses so FILTHY-often hard to see out of windows. Smaller less affluent cities: e.g. Pittsburgh, PA do not have "state of the art" buses-clean-drivers in full, clean, pressed uniforms. such neglect problems. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Downtown congestion, resulting pollution
April 18th, 2007 10:17 am

Congestion charges in the downtown area, just as London and Singapore have done. We have good public transportation and a compact downtown area, this could dramatically improve the area. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Regional Transit Center
April 18th, 2007 9:51 am

Completely abandon any attempt to create a regional transit center. Ugly concrete and glass will be dark at night and stink of urine. Women won't dare to walk alone in that environment. How about tearing down the current Caltrain station and rebuild the beautiful station that we used to have at 3rd and Townsend. Small shops on the ground floor, a market in front twice a week. The new underground will run right by there anyway. The City will have another mini environment which will create interest for locals and tourists. Ugly, ugly regional center. Stop spending money on consultants and Read This Posty »

BART Hours Extension
April 17th, 2007 9:16 pm

I Live in North Beach and one of the reasons that there is no parking and there are huge numbers of drunk and rowdy drivers every weekend is that BART doesn't serve this major urban area by running trains late on the weekends. How they can annoint themselves one of the most efficient transit systems in the country when there is absolutely no service when it's desperately needed is beyond me. I have travelled on late trains and they are in my experience very full. Jo Gray Read This Posty »

Homelessness and Buses
April 17th, 2007 4:28 pm

On the homeless it would seem much more humane and effective to provide 24.7 open shelters with locked storage bins...know that this costs more but it would permit people who are ill or incapacitated from being forced out on the streets and those that want to look for work from having to schlepp their belongings around.  On the buses, wouldn't it cost less after the initial capital investment, to have mini buses to augment service to busy routes during peak hours and make the runs on less busy routes during off peak times, save on gas and the size of Read This Posty »

Muni problems
April 17th, 2007 4:20 pm

1.    Run 2 car trains during rush hours (7-10am and 4-7pm). Single cars are a waste of your resources. It would only require a small amount of resources to end up doubling your capacity making it easier to get on a train and get me to work in a reasonable amount of time. 2.    Require tickets to be pre-purchased like in most other cities. Having the drivers selling tickets greatly slows down the Muni system and puts lots of stress on drivers who should only be focused on driving safely. Time stamp machines can be places in the buses and metros Read This Posty »
