That the restaurants were to be made responsible for the trash containers within a block or two of their establishment. You said a good portion of the trash is fast food in origin they have trash at the free standing sites. Some additional distance would be helpful, yes?

I get the Examiner, never read it, and sometimes wait for it to pile up before I recycle them. I know I could probably clean it up each time I get one but I NEVER READ THAT CRAPPY PAPER and don't think they should be allowed to litter our sidewalks if we didn't specifically request their "newspaper". Fine them. Same goes for restaurants that rubber band their menus to our doors. I specifically never go to these restaurants due to them being annoying. Not to mention the food probably sucks if they are so desperate they need to go door-to-door

1. Enforce new cleanliness rule. All publications over one page must have major spine staple. This gives publishers a chance to raise prices. This will stop loose papers from blowing around the streets. City to use revenues exclusively for cost of picking up loose paper.
2. Many owners of dogs and cats do not act responsibly. Prohibit pet-walking in certain area (e.g., business area)
3. Restaurants being squeezed. Transfer some of the tax load to gas stations.

Thursday, April 26th is "Dining Out for Life" a fundraiser for the Stop AIDS Project. My restaurant is RNM at Haight/Steiner. We're committed to total booking and we have a few tables left at the second seating: 8:30-9PM. Call them at 551-7900 to book. Eat and Drink and 25% of your bill goes to fighting AIDS. Great food, great fun, great cause!

Make it mandatory for restaurants, bars and shopkeepers to power wash the sidewalk once a week with neighborhood association dues. Polk and Broadway area is terrible due to the groups of people on the weekend. It would make the city look better and SMELL better.

As a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul here in Phoenix, we have a "Need a Hand" card that we give to people on the street who have real needs . The card has a Phoenix bus ticket stapled to it. The card when tendered at a SVDP kitchen, shower or main facility, entitles the bearer to a meal, shower, shave, haircut, clothing, and job referral. Citizens can purchase the cards with the attached bus ticket for $2.00 each. It empowers the givers to make eye contact and acknowledge the needs of each human being who approaches
