I suggest that we have designated areas surrounding the city that would act as depots- instead of allowing those oversized trucks to enter our city - the merchandise would be picked up by much smaller trucks for delivery throughout the city. Thus eliminating those very big trucks (eg: coke/beer/safeway) from ruining our streets-our air quality and generally clogging up traffic
2) and/or allow deliveries only in the early AM or late PM

Congestion charges in the downtown area, just as London and Singapore have done. We have good public transportation and a compact downtown area, this could dramatically improve the area.

Build two cross town tunnels to ELIMINATE a huge amount of traffic in our city. Traffic that simply wants to get from Marin to the peninsula and visa versa.
(1) 19th Avenue: Cut and Cover. No on or off ramps. When finished 19th Avenue can become another Octavia Blvd. Beautiful and tree lined.
(2) From the 80 to the GG Bridge (essentially the Hwy. 101 Tunnel).
If Boston can it, why can't San Francisco? Put Nancy Pelosi to work for us.

Require SFPD officers to actually take complaints from pedestrians and bicyclists (and motorists) who have been hit or near-missed by auto drivers. As a pediatrician, I have treated two different children who suffered severe injuries as a result of being hit by cars--and the police either refused to take a report from the child's family or myself, or they took the report and did nothing with it. Feedback on a weekly basis as to the status of the investigation might help to keep injured citizens confident that law enforcement is taking their plight seriously.
