The City of Phoenix, AZ like many others, has a wonderful municipal trash and recycling program that San Francisco could mimic. The City of Phoenix provides large plastic covered containers to all residential customers. One receptacle is green; it is for trash and garbage that is not recycled. The other can is blue for all recyclable items (code 1 and 2 plastics, code 6 foam, glass, paper, advertising mail, magazines, newspapers, cardboard/chipboard, milk cartons, aluminum, and metal). The green container is picked up once a week on Monday or Tuesday and the blue on Wednesday or Thursday. Our residential waste

Rec and Park staff need to be more reliable in the maintenance of the park, including the dumping ground at the top of the hill.
I would like to see the Mayor tour the park with me as soon as possible.

Dear Mr. Mayor:
While I support all the wonderful development deals, the biotech, the SOMA developments, etc. I can't help but feel the quality of life is deteriorating in many of our neighborhoods due to out of control graffiti and dumping of trash on the streets and sidewalks. I for one am tired of living in filth whenever I'm outside my home in the Mission.
I'm old enough to remember as time when peer pressure would work. A gentle reminder to someone throwing away a drink cup in a doorway was enough to get that person to stop, think, and dispose of

In order to promote recycling and decrease trash on sidewalks place waste containers in tandem. Then people who are interested in collecting bottles and cans for their deposits will have an easier time of it and won't leave not salvagable debris on the sidewalks.

The amount of trash on the streets of San Francisco is ridiculous. As a city, we should be ashamed. I have lived in several cities in the US and no city's waste pick up is sloppier than it is here. The solution to this? More public garbage cans. More recycling bins for the public. And the frequency that these get emptied needs to increase. Garbage spews out of the sides of the cans. Can we enforce harder rules and regulations on our Garbage men/women that they actually have to gather all the trash and can't assume it will be picked

Since most busses do not run 24 hours, how about allowing parking at the bus stops during hours the busses do not run. Post the hours at the bus stops. If this privilage is abused no one is to lose, since the 90% of the busses do not pull in to the bus stops, plus the penalty for parking at the bus stop is an incredible revenue source for the city.
Department of Pub;ic Works should stop operating as free garbage pick up service and start taking the complaint calls about dumping seriously and investigate. There are many households without Sunset

More Trash bins.
Eliminate the free newspaper machines which end up all over the street.
Littering is a fine isn't it? Let's post no littering signs in spanish/english with the dollar amount.
How about some DPW workers walking beats in the mission ginving out tickets and pay them a commission for every ticket they write. Something must be done about the trash. It is a disgrace in a wonderful neighborhood. Kudos on the "NO" plastic grocery bags. That will be a help.

A lot of people blame Sunset Scavengers for leaving trash on the streets. The main culprit is the people who ransack the recycling cans for profit- those are the people leave trash everywhere in the middle of the night in search of aluminum cans. The city needs to inform recyclers that they are A) Taking items that don't technically belong to them and B) they are trashing the streets.
