In case you missed it, the City Controller’s office released a report on Friday, which found that free WiFi will save San Franciscans an estimated $9 to $18 million a year, because of increased competition. Free WiFi would also help bridge the digital divide and "incorporate low-income and disadvantaged populations into the economic mainstream," the Controller’s report found. Read the San Francisco Chronicle story about the study by clicking here.
But to make sure free WiFi becomes a reality we need you to Act Locally today. Join us today for a rally on the steps of City Hall at 1PM, on the Dr. Carlton Goodlett Place side. Then come testify at the special WiFi hearing at 2PM.
Here are the details for today’s WiFi rally and hearing:
Date: Monday, May 14th
Time: 1:00 PM
Place: City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton Goodlett Place (click here for a map)
RSVP: info@actlocallysf.org or (415) 218-2129 (ask for Brian if you have questions)
Join us at City Hall at 1PM today. But, if you can’t make the rally and hearing, please call or email your supervisor. Let them know that you want your free WiFi. Please forward this post to five of your friends and ask them to sign the free WiFi petition. It’s time to fight!
See you on the steps of City Hall.

This plan only benefits Google and Earthlink. I support municipal free wi-fi, but this plan is a sham.
Earthlink is run by Scientologists. I’d rather not have my internet habits available to a cult that thinks we’re controlled by space aliens.
Why not put together a Citizens Advisory Committee made up of the brightest local IT experts from our local colleges?
Give us some expert advice, and some beneficial choices. Just because Gavin goes skiing with Google, we don’t owe them any favors.
