I try to uphold God’s laws and the Constitution. I believe in God and “We the People and by the People” and the division in church and state although they are both in my heart. As a Christian, I think of marriage as a blessing from God and therefore a Holy Matrimony administered by an ordained person by God. Couples also have to register their marriage as a legal union as well. Since there are many people that don’t believe in God and Holy Matrimony, our government provides a civil union that the law recognizes as a legal marriage given by a Mayor, Judge, Captain and so on. I think it unfair to discriminate the law of our government to deny a civil union between two consenting adults and afford them the legal rights a marriage provides. I think a Holy Matrimony is not afforded to same sex marriage although, as it is quite clear in the Bible. It's odd that only 71% of non-religious people approve of same-sex marriage. That means that more than a quarter of the population just doesn't think a substantial group should be treated equally - for no reason. Imagine how that plays out in states like Alabama and Mississippi. Let's face it - most people oppose same-sex marriage not because it infringes on the sanctity of marriage, but because they don't like homosexuals. For years it was acceptable to hate gays, and in most parts of the United States, it still is. The older generation grew up being taught to think that way. Education level is also interesting. It infers that those of us who are willing to invest in ourselves through education are more likely to focus on bettering ourselves, than on condemning others, in general.
