Gavin Newsom City Hall San Francisco budgetIn the face of overwhelming support for Mayor Newsom’s budget, Supervisor Chris Daly cancelled his rally and took the extraordinary step of cancelling the Budget and Finance Committee hearing.  But that didn’t stop hundreds of people from descending on City Hall on Wednesday afternoon to fight for the city of San Francisco.

We won the first battle for a smart budget that addresses the needs of all San Franciscans and against the politics of self-interest. But the fight is far from over.

Supervisor Daly is going to keep trying to cut funds from our police and small businesses, cleaning and greening our streets, replacing San Francisco’s public housing projects, 311 and many other basic and new bold programs.

We must keep fighting for smart budget priorities.  Please call and email the supervisors.  Let them know you want them to restore the mayor’s budget:

Chris Daly — 554-7970
Bevan Dufty — 554-6968
Tom Ammiano — 554-5144
Ross Mirkarimi — 554-7630
Aaron Peskin — 554-7450

Over the last couple days, the supervisors have received thousands of calls and emails from you, but it is not enough. We need you to keep calling and emailing them in order to make sure our voices are heard.  We cannot allow one person to eliminate key city programs without even going through the normal budget process or having any sort of dialogue with the people who pay his salary.

"It’s about this city’s future," as Mayor Newsom told the crowd.

Please spread the word by emailing this to all of your friends.  And thank you to all of those who attended today’s rally.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend today’s rally. But, I did call the supervisors listed above and asked them to reinstate Mayor Newsom’s budget. I, especially, support the idea of the Community Justice Court. I have been volunteering at Project Homeless Connect for the past two years and see what a huge challenge the homelessness problem is for San Francisco. If implementing such a court will help the homeless get the resources they need to get them back on their feet, I’m all for it. If Chris Daly has some better ideas than Gavin Newsom does for solving San Francisco’s problems, I would love to hear them. But until and if he does he should at least lend his support to a mayor that is attempting to offer some solutions.

311 is a great program. Mayor Gavin believes in outreach, and i applaud him for all his efforts.
He has learned so much about himself as well as others. receiving a social work degree from ASU was one of the best things i have done. Gavin’s program SF Homeless Connect is awesome, i have volunteered for it once so far and plan to help more. please encourage and support Gavin and
applaud him for his huge efforts and accomplishments! Hillary Theimer
