<description>We Americans get caught up in our day-to-day lives, our greed, our fear of losing what we have and what we think we should have, and we tend to forget about the principles that we founded this country on. These immigrants, these mothers, fathers, children and teenagers, just like you. Just like me, are risking their lives to cross borders. These mother's, fathers and chldren also come for these same values and ideas that make, or maybe I should speaking in a past tense, 'made' us a great country. I would really prefer not to speak in that tense but to attempt to assert MY freedom of speech, in hopes that it does not fall upon deaf ears. The deaf ears are more concerned with their oil fields, their making money off of the sick and the blind, they are scared of not making enough profit and they are scared of you and me and them. The American has become afraid of his or her own shawdow. This is evident in the failure to stop the government and G. Bush dead in their tracks. This is evident in the fact that Americans can sit day-after-day in front of a television and watch what some socialite celebrity is doing with her life and believe that this is important and entertaining rather than getting angry that some politician is destroying our Constitution. What about the fact that the Feds have made a mess and the only way they see out is to start their letter mailing routine and scare tactics. This is absurd...and now they spout off about the differences between illegal and legal but we have the most corrupt politician in America's highest office who is running the show in any way that he sees fit. The Mayor DeStefano Jr. has done a brave and spirited thing instead of sticking his head in the sand like so many Americans do today because they are afraid. San Francisco should follow suit and continue to be a shining example of the land of the free and and home to the brave issue an identification card to the many immigrants that reside in our city that are not 'legal!' We need to get back to the roots of 'what real America looks like!' A real America looks like you, me and them! A real America looks like a beautiful place where anyone can pursue a dream and have a decent quality of life. A real America is the land of the brave, like Mayor DeStefano and the home of the free! But not for long folks! Count your blessings now and pray loudly that it doesn't get worse...sadly, it probably will before there is significant change! In order to continue this concept San Francisco should also give a bit of 'freedom' in the form of identification in order that the recipients may pursue happiness, just as our forefathers did when they arrived here. What is happening here is a travesty...it is bad enough that our President has trampled and left his grimy, little cowboot footprints all over our Constitution but now we are trampling over what made us great in the first place! I applaude any politician or civic leader that has the guts to stick by the American ideals as Mayor John DeStefano Jr. has done by implementing the 'resident card!' By allowing OUR government to take away freedoms one-by-one, one-day-at-a-time, and chisel our liberties away like the proverbial 'thief in the night,' we one day will wake up in America and find that we are no longer living in freedom. We will wake up in a very horrible world that is dark and weak and without any spirit. The spirit that once was ours will have disappeared into this evil night and we will find that we are no better than some of the politicians that took away our spirit and our freedom. We will find that we are weak and afraid, even more so than we are now. We will die living in fear and without knowing what could have been had we acted in faith instead of fear.
